The Bow is a Mathews solo cam the draw is 50-70lbs and I have it set around 50lbs. and the sight is a trophy ridge not sure which modle though.

For my backstop I have a hot tub cover that I cut into 4 chunks but the arrows are stating to go all the way through where it has been shot the most. So i've already had to refletch a few arrows.

One Question. it's set at about 50lbs and has a 29" draw so what arrows would be good for not too much $$$$$??

Arrows? http://www.goldtip.com/byoa/index.asp?rnd=1201235664937

Try this site and you can play around a bit to see what works best for your setup.

This one should give you an idea of what spine you will be looking for.

Just off the top of my head I'd say you would be in the 5575 class for arrows/shafts.

Good luck and let us know if we can help more.

Dan.

Hunting? Target?

Hunting, I use Blazer vanes. 2 inches long, .5 inch high.

Target, actually I have been using the same thing on my FatBoys as well. Although I'll be switching to the Mini Blazers when I need some more.

Ya I think I'll go with something 2" seeing as I will mainly be target shooting and a little bow hunting after Lots And Lots more practice.
I'm Hopefully heading to Bucky's tomorrow to look for some shafts.

Some easton Carbon Excells in 500 spine would do you very nicely with 100gr. tips and you really cant go wrong with Blazer Vanes

the arrows shouldnt cost more than 8 bucks a peice fully built

Yup! WHS (what he said)...

If by "Bucks" you mean Bucky's Sports in Duncan, try to steer clear of aluminum shafts (JMO) and seek out some carbons. Anything Richard has in the 500 spine should be good for your setup.

for someone just starting out i would not use blazers . I would use duravanes way easyer to get them to stick . Blazers can be a booger getting them to stick .

Oops!! Ya I meant Bucky's type-O:???:. I agree about avoiding aluminum IMO carbon is the only way to go!

BTW Ryan, what grain heads will you be using? What has been suggested here is based on 100 gr. field tips or broadheads.

If you want to go with 125 gr. tips/heads and 28" shafts, your F.O.C. will need a bit of adjusting by going up to 7595's or a stiffer shaft if you choose other than Gold Tip. Plus you'll need to go a bit longer on the shaft - like 29" or so.

I just moved away from 4" duravanes and refletched with 2" Blazers. After reading this I pulled on the front and rear edges of the vanes and everything stayed intacted.

I clean my shafts and glueing edges of the vanes with rubbing alcohol. I let it evaporate and then glue with Saunders Arrow Mate Cement. I havn't had any problems with adhesion using this method with Duravanes. I have had difficulties however using acetone and Fletchtite glue.

I've used Blazers for a long time now and I've used Fletchtite Platinum, Gold Tip's glue, and Bohning's Powerbond. Never a problem.

Don't tell anyone but when I re-fletch I just use my vane remover (which is really sharp) and I get a the old glue off, leaving the shaft nice and smooth. I wipe it with a clean cloth and go right ahead and glue the vane on. No prep, no special cleaning or anything. A dab of glue at the front and back of the vane and I'm good to go.
