Great looking buck. It's not what the buck or any animal scores that counts, it's the hunt and the memories that last a lifetime and can never be replaced.

The memories of this one are what will count. Not much of a score because of only two on one side. Fairly decent mass, I'll go 130.

I say 125.

That big ol' buck is not worthy of a tape. He is just what his is, a big character buck. As for score, between 115-120.

Just google scoring antlers or go on the Boone and Crockets website and download the form for scoring. It is very easy to get a rough score. All you need is a tailors measuring tape (flexible). Good Luck

I'll disagree with that.
While it's obvious that he isn't a booker, I feel that its perfectly fine for people to know exactly what they got (score).

Doesn't have to be about competition, all the time... And if it is, it's a good spot to learn how to judge, when afield. Hard to beat something learned "hands on".

Love them heavy antlered Deer.

Mr. Dean,
What I was getting at is that with a big buck like this, you'll likely get really discouraged if you put a tape to him. I probably worded it wrong. It is more like the 'Tape is not worthy of this buck'. Too many people get caught up in the so-called score of an animal and too many times animals just don't 'fit' the score they fall into. I can tell ya for a fact, I've killed many a dink buck that scores about the same as the buck posted and they ain't even in the same league as this buck. Sometimes it is best to just enjoy the deer for what it is, a monster.

I'm not wanting to know the score so that I can say he is a big buck..I'm not hung up on scoring deer and never have been..Just curious is all..I dont go out looking for big monster bucks that score well..He is a trophy to me and that's all I really care about..I dont look at a buck and say" Oh that's going to score well" I look at them and say "holy crap that's huge!" and as long as it gets my heart pumping and gets me jumping up and down when he goes down then I'm happy. But I was just looking at the pictures and though to myself I wonder what his score would be just out of curiosity.

Thats an awesome buck. You don't see many fork antlers that big.I'm always curious about score as well, and measure everything.I'd have to guess about 140 gross,126 net.

I'd give him 10 out of 10. He's got length, mass and character. B&C doesn't count the latter, but it is first in my system!

Unusual buck and many congrats. Tasty as well I hope.

May I suggest to you and others to remove the tongue prior to the pic, also roll his legs under him and then hold his head from kneeling 'behind' the deer not in front of the deer or any other animal as this diminishes
the animal's 'score' greatly.

Also by holding the camera lower and shooting slightly up to your animal
with perhaps you centered in the antlers or well off to one side you'll achieve a much better effect.

Once again congrats, a 5 X 2! I think your taxidermist would have fun with that one.

I agree with Heitsman about tucking the tongue in for photos as well as wiping away blood from the animals face. Not because I fear for others feelings or because I am offended or think it is gross. It's just that if you don't get the animal mounted, your chance for a good photo to blow up, frame and give to your mom as a Christmas or birthday present are gone. Mom has a couple photos of me with critters she can proudly display to her friends. If you don't get a big one, practice with the little ones until you get it right. Just don't do the Chuck Adams picture with the animal as far out in front of you as you can hold it. It makes you appear vain.
