Saw this over on Sportfish BC and had to post it here.

Check out the new way to fish the fraser. Would like to see what would happen when a real fish grabed it.

Saw that on TV a couple years ago, so thought I'd give it a try.
Got the boat from Radio shack for just over $50, put an 8 foot leader behind it with a streamer fly and plopped it in the Columbia. Didn't have any luck for quite a while (wrong time of day-fish weren't feeding), but I finally got a hit and gunned the motor to set the hook. Just like that video, the boat went down a few times, but really lacked power to fight the fish. I couldn't make any headway and eventually either (I never retrieved it) the boat filled with water and sank or the fish pulled it under. I did noticed that the range was very limited, so maybe I lost radio control quickly as well. Real fun idea, but even with dual props and motors the boat was underpowed compared to the fish (I never saw it either, guess rainbow though). I still think that this is a great idea, but something a lot more than $55 is needed to make it work properly. Found the website for better (more powerful) boats but never bothered to order one. I'm not one to waste money just on a lark and besides, I had my little taste of failure. Now I've thought about chasing crows out of my yard with one of those little helicopters.
