Hmmm. a buddy from 100 mile was near C.W. on Dec. 09 trying to fill his reg. 3 tag. He got almost identical pics , looks like the same 2 bulls!

Tuffer,
Was actually surprised to see them still packin headgear. Would have been nice to see them drop those paddles in front of me. I would imagine when they do drop they will fall right to the bottom of the deep powder and the rodents will chew on them until the spring.

Steelco,
I was very happy that I at least didn't see one of those damn immys hanging out with this group of bulls and cows. Spent a lot of time this year looking for the elusive immy and the only one I saw during the season was dead. We were coming home from work (past a cut that we had been driving past for weeks) and a guy was trying to get the immy up a steep bank and into his truck. The crew jumped out and gave the guy a hand which he was very thankful for.
Maybe, just maybe the Regional Bio will can the LEH and open a GOS on these bulls. I'm getting tired of seeing bigger bulls and not having an LEH.

Nice pics, surprising about the racks but will be off by the new year, moose looked tired after all that fighting, grouping up for a rest I guess and a long winter. Funny as most of the wildnerness shows indicate the bulls are solitary after the rut to lick their wounds so to speak but I found the bulls hang out together as I seen it that way numerous times.
Probably ganging up for protection??

X2.........I hunt a lot in region 3, as it's just over the hill from 8. I haven't seen one spike/fork in region 3, EVER.

Any idea when the region 3 bio holds meetings or invites input on seasons? I'd like to put my 2 cents in.

I said the same thing till this year, I only saw 2 moose in 3-12 this year and both were legal immys!

when do you guys think that they will be dropping there antlers and have some in region 3 already.

Typically I rarely see a bull still carrying by the end of the first week of Jan. Earliest I've heard of bulls dropping is the first week of Dec. With the good dumps we've been getting during the last week, I doubt I'll find any tine until April. Just a lot of fluff with no base. When the antlers drop they fall to the bottom and are buried until spring. Every now and then I get lucky and find one at work, or better yet find one laying in the middle of a road, but the vast majority of sheds I pick up are April-June.

Fisherdude,
I have no idea if they are going to do a review for Region 3 or not. They certainly haven't publized it if there are. I just read on the other thread that they wanted imput for Region 4. That was the first I heard of that. I think they like to keep us in the dark, that way they can use the old 'hunters don't care because they gave no imput' card. Kinda like doing the LEH review during the first week of hunting season right? ;) If nothing else, I certainly gave a ton of imput for Grizz when I got that big questionare in the mail. I'm sure I hit some buttons they didn't want me to hit too. LOL!

I would go along with your experience on this, and add that anytime I have found fresh drops in the early part of December it is bitter cold -20-25 at night and have a theory that this huge cold bone is giving the old boy a killer "slurpy headache/brain freeze" so he knocks them off, I found one side two years ago in late bow season (-20) and was surprised at how much blood there was, looked to me like he got rid of it early.

Great pics. These animals are more social than we think. Only during the rut do they (the bulls at least) get snarly with each other. I recently saw another photo in which there was about 3 cows and two bulls all watching a hunter field dressing another bull all within sight of each other. Obviously, this was during the rut or very near around it.

Nice shots again dana.see any deer on your outing? Most likely holed up in the thick stuff in that weather.

I haven't been seeing much for deer. They've been pretty darn elusive since the start of Nov. I don't know if it is all the wolves that are keeping them in the thick crap or what. Been really crazy where I have been working. Tons of tracks every day, just no deer in those tracks. Not even at prime time. Seems they are making all the tracks at night.

Pretty much like that over this way ,havent seen many in the last few weeks either.im thinking the unsettled weather ,with all the small storms keeps them tucked away in the thick stuff, sure been alot different late fall and winter thats for sure.
