Firstly, My Uncle and I would like to thank everyone who provided us with info and advice on our hunt in the halfway.
Secondly, I'll mention that most of the precautions in the literature that is provided by the MOE in the buffalo hunting package are very accurate; this big boy was hard to take down and required quite a bit of lead poisoning. Shot placement is very tricky as the very large shoulder and leg comes back way farther to the guts than any other animal I've hunted. This bull didn't even flinch or show any signs of being hit 3 times hard with a 300 and a 7mm. I'm sure that this would have eventually killed him but you don not want to be trying to deal with one of these in a bad spot so he got a couple more in the neck to finish him off. The only info provided that is questionable is sex differentiation through horn shape. DO NOT assume that an animal is a bull because the horns curve in; we stopped at a ranch on the way home to look at some buf close up and 2 were standing sided by side one with straight horns (cow) and one with very curved horns (bull?, nope) both peed out the back! Other than sheer size of the animal, the only sure way to tell the difference is to look for the hair where the penis comes out.
Anyways after chasing them all around and up the mountains with some near misses and disappointments, I found this bad boy by climbing up a ridge and looking below into clearings not seen from the road. He scores within an inch or 2 at the most of the B&C min and both Uncle and I are very satisfied with out trophy. Here is a pic.....:D:D:D

Thats a mighty beast you got there! Awesome pic for sure! A buddy and myself both got draws in 96 and tagged out also, and can further attest to the fact that they are hard to put down. We watched several other people hammer away with some large lead chuckers. I can tell ya that 1 to the head or spine and its all over!

Lots of meat and work for sure, it took 4 hours to butcher and 4 more to get it to our cabin. The first skimmer load was about 750lbs and consequently I blew a nice hole in the skimmer on a rock because of it:cry:
I have to finish caping him today as I think that we'll try mounting him as our deer last year turned out well; as far as I have seen, other than trying to get a needle through the hide, they should be easy to mount as there is very little visible detail since they are so wooly.

I don't know about mean, but they are sure huge and can absorb a lot of punishment before staying down.

I had some tenderloin last night and it was awesome, some backstrap too and it was very tasty but a little tougher than usual; can't expect perfect on an old animal I'm just glad it tastes good. As for my freezer, I'm glad I bought a 23 ft3'er when I first bought my house:D
