Like seeing perfect shots, to me you cant get any better than the heart. I only got a couple i've taken photos of. Wouldn't mind seeing some bigger ones like Moose or Elk or Bison, but any heart shot will do if anyone cares to take the time to post.

Here are some rifle Bucks from years passed, .243

Heart shots are the best, but I love to eat the heart too, so I’m torn. Last nights buck was quartering so the “heart” shot got lungs instead. So tacos de corazon are on the menu today! I haven’t taken any pics of past heart shots to contribute.

Love eatin hearts will never leave a good one with another gutpile or in cavity again. Only downfall to rifle shootin hearts, bow the whole thing remains edible

Observer Great photos of the heart shots ! Nog that’s a hell of a moose ! Now if I may deviate a bit . Do you find that animals shot in the heart expire more quickly that through the lungs ? I would think so .

Hey Gang, here is my first (and possibly second) heart shot. This was from this years meat buck I harvested in the final remaining days of any buck season, reg 3. I worked really hard this year for a deer and was happy with the outcome even though he was a one antlered mule. What he lacked in head-gear he made up for in flavour. I found him cruising through the trees around 60m. I usually try to shoot off my trigger sticks but I knew that in order to stay mobile and quick with this buck I'd have to be able to steady myself from a kneeling position when he gave me the chance. I aimed in anticipation for when he would take his next step past any obstructions and when he stepped into the small opening between trees I fired. He kicked/bucked, but only moved about 20ft and stood. I decided to shoot again and he immediately tumbled. Upon inspection of the exit wound, there were two holes within a half inch of each other. The hide on the opposite side had only one enlarged entry wound. I do believe I somehow managed to shoot this deer in the identical spot two times. I joke when I say I shot him in the heart a second time, but I'm convinced he didn't need the second round. Tikka .270win. 145gr eld-x handloads

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
I had one elk run almost 300 yards with his heart destroyed.
Had bears and whitetails too make it one hell of a final fast dash, some rather lengthy.

Also seen moose drop right in their tracks.

Each one is different...

Montec: Nice Shooting!

Cheers

Nice shootin quite the group! Had the same thing 2 seasons ago on a Blacktail archery. Hit him twice but didn't need to also a heart shot, after the first one he just walked around feeding I wasn't even sure I hit him until we got to him, ended up losin both arrows lol

The fact that an animal can still run a good distance with a heart shot certainly backs up the idea to sit down and wait a few minutes even if you’ve made a good shot but don’t see them fall

Remember shooting a young buck that was less than 100 yards away. He was on a hill side & watching Eve & I. My 1 shot pierced his heart but he ran down hill for quite some distance before dropping. His run was fairly noisy.

From my 12/16/2017 post #35 “A deer hunt”
Shot a young buck one year with a 300 Win Mag 180gr on a hillside right beside Gaspard Creek where Eve & I were charged by a grizz. He was watching us & ready to sprint away from a fair distance but aimed for the lung heart area & knew I hit. He ran down hill for at least 100 yards before dropping. A laboured run of a mortally wounded deer. His heart was split in 2.
It has to do with being pumped up with adrenaline.

Almost all the deer I shot or have seen shot that were not aware of hunters presence dropped almost instantly & hardly moved.

A brain shot kills them instantly even if they are aware of your presence.
I have some photos of the dead deer somewhere-if I find it I’ll post it!
