Does the Ministry of Environment send out any questionnaires to moose hunters who drew an LEH regarding harvest information ?
Thanks

Compulsory inspections for moose are required for majority of MU’s in the province. My guess is they use this data cross referenced with LEH authorization #s to determine success rates

I’ll let you know if I get a questionnaire. My LEH did not come with compulsory inspection.

Arctic LakeI don't think LEH winners get any special survey for any species, not even sheep
Hunters may get a random questionairre just for buying a tag, like any other gos
maybe I'm wrong, hope so
It has been a peeve of mine for years. Management has no idea of participation or effort on leh permits. Permit numbers let out are a pure guess and could possibly be higher for hunts of low participation

7B required compulsory reporting for all moose taken (not compulsory inspection like region 6)

it was quick and easy to do online…be interesting to see if/when they publish the data

The results are in… I just got a “Harvest Questionnaire” today via email. It specifically mentions the draw I got, and asks about moose, elk and bear. See below:

Just did a compulsory inspection this afternoon for one of two moose taken on an LEH group draw. It was a fairly straight forward procedure answered some basic questions, provided as an accurate location as possible on a map, dude took some pictures and then pulled an incisor tooth.

Not quite correct. The Synopsis actually reads "Compulsory Reporting required for all moose taken in the Peace region, except Compulsory Inspection required of moose taken in a portion of MU 7-52. See Map H31"

Mine was 3-26. Got close a couple of times, but nobody was willing to take one for the team.

Yes, you are fully correct

I was mostly replying to the comment “Compulsory inspections for moose are required for majority of MU’s in the province.”…..not the majority at all

but I didn’t copy the entire snippet from the regs for 7b

My questionnaire was basically directed towards the tags purchased . . . one for mule deer and one for black bear.
I wonder if the nearest landmark being the Fraser River was suitable.

BC Moose Tracker app is another way to help monitor numbers. Entirely voluntary, spot moose, enter the data & submit. Perhaps they should provide this for other species that are struggling.

Just completed survey, notified by email. It asked only about Elk. Purchased tags for mule & whitetail deer, moose & elk. Entered LEH for moose & elk, not drawn for either. Sighted one elk during bow season region 8.

Wildlife Branch has received the same information 3 times regarding my 2023 moose hunt. Once through the Guide Outfitters report. Again through a CI. And a third time through the emailed survey.

Is it really necessary to tell them the same thing 3 times?!

Poor data collection process if it can't cross reference information that has already been collected.

Nope, I was hiking the Okanagan High Rim trail. I remember bumping something big last year on the same trail early in the season as well but didn't get a good enough look to confirm if it was elk. It made a helluva racket thrashing around in the bush. Definitely bigger than a deer & not the kind of area a moose would mess around in although I've spotted moose up there as well, Oyama Lake.

This season I got a real good look at his rack. I nocked an arrow & took a couple steps to get a better look. He was a dandy. Took another step & got busted. Heard him bugle a couple times after a few minutes. He had moved quite a distance in the timber. It was steep & thick. I didn't have my elk call with me 'cause I was after deer & the last thing I expected was to run into an elk. I continued up the trail until it opened up to a decommissioned FSR and there was a quad with a compound bow case on the back. The hunter had headed down a steep slope in pursuit. Heard a couple more bugles after that, but no more sighting.

I kind of suspect the herd that hangs out on the ranch near Kelowna ranges up into the area I was hiking at some point during the year, apparently early September haha. Pretty sure some of the droppings I've seen up there are elk, but they're old, not fresh. Gonna set up some trail cams next year.

I drive Hwy 6 quite often up to the Monashee Pass & have never seen elk. I know there are elk past that down towards the Fauquier ferry but seldom go there.
