took the hounds up silver skagit only now just getting back the got on a real good track we got out of the thickest nastiass steep snowy and slippery bush after dark. I dont think we were a 1/8 of the way to the hounds
The two hounds seem to have made it almost all the way back the signal was steadly increasing and then seem to not get any stronger ( very strong and pinning the tracker at times)the two hounds are giving a real strong signal at the 24km mark but seem to be stuck on the other side of the river there . we need sleep but will be heading in the early AM our phone numbers are on the tracking collars

if anyone is up there and sees em let us know
thanks

Good luck with the hunt inside a hunt.

I don't think there are many wolves up there so that's some optimism for you.

I'm sure you know this but leave an old stanfield or something where you dumped them. They'll often come back (if no obstacles prevent it) and sleep on it at night but then take off again hunting in the am :)
My friends done this a couple times when the chase has gone well into the night, one time coming back 2 days later to get them at first light because he missed them the first a.m arriving too late lol

Cuda,

I know the feeling although my boys never had to worry about the cold.

If I was over that way I would be there by the morning to help you out mate, no risk.

Keep us posted eh!

Cheers Noel

I'm headed into the Skagit on Friday for an "end of season" hunt if the roads aren't TOO snotty. I'll be sure to keep an eye open for your hounds if you haven't posted that you've found them by the time I leave (5:00 am). I'll even poke around the 24km mark a bit if you would like. Good luck on your hunt for the hounds.

Hey Stanfields would work.

I peed in the spot where they were unloaded from my truck. I dribbled there a hundred times.

Don't sweat it too much.

This fall, tarpman and I recovered and returned a hound that had been out for 48hrs - she was cold and hungry but in good shape.

They're tougher than we think

Just got back
We Got Winnie and Murphy back :-) dogs are real tired and need a bit of healing but they are all intact and happy .

we left some clothes for the dogs aswell as urinated in the area for scent on the road where we dropped them but they wernt there in the morning and there were no tracks which was really odd as they normally go back to the drop spot or i find them on my clothing in the morning.

we ended up tracking the collars which the tree switches were going off like crazy. We found ourselves hiking and climbing through several valleys and then up a really icy steep mountain to the dogs that we could hear were still tiredly howling and barking.( why does it have to be the highest most difficult spot:lol:) We climbed close enough to hear their bells only to fall short by what couldnt be more then about 50yds but we couldnt safely get ourselves over the top to them but we did manage to reluctently call them down to us and clip them up and not let them go, we were just happy to manage to get the hounds. Within a few minutes Winnie fell asleep on me on the mountain .

the dogs were dead tired but still wanted to run a nice little bocat track we came across on the way out (no bloody way) the terrain is real thick and steep I figured hell has frozen over and this is it:lol:

dogs got a real treat when we finally got back to the tracker in the form of a bobcat that i successfully put the stalk on in the early morning( I couldnt resist cutting a tag:biggrin:). We let the hounds bay it up for a bit (no chewing as i will save the pelt)and loaded them up still wanting more .

all in all it was a great two days for the wife and I ( I sure am glad she likes hunting with hounds)and I have a new rug

Great news Baracuda, I'm glad to hear your dogs are safe and sound. Yea I think the lower coastal area here is the worst terrain going from my experience. It is like a dream heading up to the interior. As compared to hiking around down here.
