I haven’t been able to get out in the last week, talking to people that have though it’s starting to sound like a lot of people are starting to see bucks and does together. Have you seen any rutting activity in deer yet, if so what region? Everything I heard of has been both whities and Mule Deer in region 8.

We started seeing a few bucks trailing does a few weeks ago in region 3. Ended up taking a great 4x4 with 25 inch inside spread on October 19th. It's neck was very swollen and just a bit of rutting buck stink. Been at this for 40 years and this was by far the earliest rutter I've found. sorry no idea how to load a pic.

Congrats man! Make a thread about thehunt and your harvest, and PM me, I'll give ya my email address, and then I can upload for you....

To answer the OPs question, I haven't seen much rut activity yet, although in R5 I was finding rubs after the first week of Oct..

Have seen lots of rubs up north. I tried rattling for the first time yesterday, but no takers. Next weekends snow should get them out in daylight and hopefully more responsive.

We’ve seen a couple of fresh rubs here in 8-15.

My buck was a bit stinky, and he was cruising around at 2pm.

Shot a nice 4 pt white tail yesterday, he was pretty stinky but was with a smaller buck and what I think was a doe.

Definitely pre rut behavior up north with the cold snap. Saw a big ol mule deer buck with about 20 does collected yesterday. Then today hunting saw about 11 whitetails , passed up some medium bucks and almost got a shot at a trophy buck. Also saw 8 moose with 6 in 1 Group.

Is there much snow up there yet? My whitetail spot is in 8-9. My biggest obstacle with the rut is snow levels. Makes getting there tough and last year I hiked from the main fsr for the rut in November and my cams showed that the 2.5ft of snow in October had pushed everything out and they rutted somewhere else.

Very little snow here. Are you around Anarchist or Baldy? I haven’t gone that way in a couple of weeks, but there is basically nothing to speak of here around Grand Forks up to 6,000’ or so.

Been out almost everyday last week Region 3-18/3-19. Not much visible movement from any decent bucks. Just a couple bucks ie. 2-3 pointers wandering around. All the doe groups I've seen had no bucks. Bumped into more hunters than i did bucks.

Pulling into the lease I’m working at today, 1 big 3pt buck with 17 does herded up. Safe to say the ruts about to kick off for mule deer. Whitetails starting to move more are my observations.

I tried some rattling in 3-19. Figured it was early but wasn't seeing anything so what the heck. Nada.

This is my first time rattling though so there is that. :-)

My spot is north of Baldy at 1400m or just over 4500ft

Is the whitetail rut looking to be early as well or right on time?

My kid shot a nice buck on Saturday. It was hot on a doe and distracted

Rear leg glands weren't too stinky on the buck, just a little wiff of smell.

Been out a fair bit in Reg 3 where I hunt. Seeing 15 to 30 does/ fawns per trip only 1 buck with any of them and the grandson was to slow to get him. It will pickup for sure in November, 4 pt season. As well as the short spike moose season.

My son-in-law told me today that he has been seeing more deer than ever in the Shawnigan Lake area, watched the biggest buck he has seen following a doe, and he had to stop the car to let them cross the road the buck didn't give a dam if the car was there or not.

I hunt WT mainly and don't bump into many MD bucks in my travels. I have been out hiking around Kamloops for two weeks and bump into a lot of WT does but haven't laid eyes on a buck yet with them. I have a few small WT and MD on cams but no good bucks. Checked some cams yesterday Lots of WT does on cam with zero bucks following them.

It's never too early or too late to rattle as far as I'm concerned. I rattled in a buck on Dec 10 three years ago. They may not come stompin in if it's early or after the rut but if WT hear other deer fighting, good chance they will sneak in to see who is banging heads. I've had good luck rattling and I have had bucks come in running and barking and others just walk in slowly looking for the deer. I love it! When rattling keep your ears tuned in! Rattle then sit and listen hard. You will hear bucks coming from a ways away sometimes. They jump logs and go through bushes to find the source of the rattling and they generally will stare right at you, meaning the direction of the sound. Those ears know where the sound is coming from.

I feel its about mid december when the last few die hard bucks figure its over. I enjoy seeing the bigger solitary bucks taking it easy when I transition from deer to predator hunting.

Great pics there Snohater....the buck rubs I'm seeing everywhere have showed up a little late compared to last year...must be the weather and lack of snow? But seeing lots of them now...

Same with one of my BT spots, seems rubbin late. I got what I call mega rubs in a couple of my spots, they are rubbin big trees year after year, frickin things are like beavers actually fallin trees over time (wind blows em over they get so weakened) then theyll rub them when there layin over. Anyways none of the mega rubs have been hit that ive seen which I thought weird. Looks like some new ones startin and lots of smaller ones all around but seemed they were rubbin later than normal at my one spot anyhow.

The timings gotta be due to the warmer weather I would think..

If your finding rubs in the same area year after year especially blacktails those perennial rubs are where I would focus on forsure.

Definitely, I got two spots like that for sure now maybe a third. Its definitely what I look for above all else but these spots dont come easy, out of 10 places I check out may find one or two if that, but when you do you know youve struck gold.
