Hi everybody,

I am 14 and I passed my hunting course last year. I won a youth LEH for antlerless mule deer this year for region 5-02. My dad said he'll take me there to try and get a deer but he said I have to do some of the work and research where to go. We will be hunting November 9-15 because I have fall break at school. Region 5-02 is pretty huge, can somebody help me with areas to try or areas to stay away from? Thank you for your help.

I would find a logging road and you should be just fine... sight in the gun and bring a camera...

I don't know the area but hopefully there's snow on the ground, find fresh tracks, with the wind in your face, slowly follow them...if there isn't snow, find fresh sign and hunt it... a mule deer doe once found should stop for a brief period of time to give you a shot opportunity (not like whitetails typically). You could always cover ground with a vehicle as well but many times in Nov even muley does can be staying off the roads. Good luck.

I have the same draw for adults.

What kind of hunt are you looking for? Want to get a deer or are you wanting an adventure?

I'd help you guys out, but I'll be chasing goats that week.

If you're still looking on the 12th and 13th in the williams lake area, I can help you out.

Where are you located? Would help pin the area of 5-2 a bit?

I know the youth tag covers the whole area, from Oct to Nov. Had my youth get that tag a few times over the years.

We live in Nanaimo so we’re making a special trip. We will hunt anywhere from Williams Lake to Quesnel

I really want to get a deer! An adventure would be cool too.

If you are coming from the Island I would book 2 to 3 nights hotel in Williams lake. Knife creek has always been a good spot hunt the power lines, pretty easy hunting. Knife creek is a couple KMs before Williams lake.. Freezing conditions are better because the mud in there is like gumbo and you will get a vehicle stuck.

Type in Creek Road into google maps, that will give you a good starting point... find the gas lines and power lines that run off the road and you will be golden. Good luck.

My dad is getting us a hotel room in Williams Lake. Thank you for the information and the picture!
