View Full Version : My Biggest Bull Moose So Far

My family group finally pulled an LEH, and I got a week off from my work to hunt for a bull moose. I have bagged a 10-pt bull in region 7B in 2019 (that region is now on LEH) and a spike-fork moose in 2022, but I always dreamed to harvest a larger bull. My dad scouted the shared LEH area twice and located two separate bulls and two groups of cow & calf (one cow + one antlerless calf in a pocket and one cow + one antlered calf in another pocket) in September. We went to the area on Sept 30th evening, only spotting a cow which we saw again on Oct 1st morning; my dad said it was not one of the cow he spotted since this cow was smaller. Then, we did not see a single moose for four days; only seen a few muley doe/fawns and reached bag limit for grouse. I continued to walk and attempted to spot a moose at the swamp my dad said there was a bull, and on Oct 4th evening 7pm when it was the absolute last visual light for my eyes, a large bull moved into my shooting distance! I waited until he turned into an ideal angle and took two shots. Bull down, 12 points!

Thanks for all your replies folks. Yeah I was absolutely stun by those drop tines showing unique character of the bull's antlers. It's sent to taxidermist for shoulder mount.

Thanks again everyone. I was still super stoked how lucky I was when hunting this bull. My dad's pre-scout definitely offered some fresh first-hand information; though we did not see the September bulls in October, we ended up with bagging a even better bull at the exact open marsh that we expected to see some kind of bull appearance. The double drop tines on the bull's antler was a bonus; I will pick up the shoulder mount in 2024.
