Checked it out last year briefly. Didn’t see anything except a small black bear. Didn’t hear any bugles either.

One of the best known hunting areas in Region 4

Camps at every pullout plus locals pound it pretty hard, definitely one of the busiest places in the East koots. A few road closures. Used to be really good hunting, pretty much get a bugle in every drainage. Unless you live in the area, I don’t think most people realize how shitty the elk numbers are in the East kootenays right now. Not even close to what it was even 5-7 years ago. No longer the “elk Mecca”. There is still a few elk in there, some good ones come out every year. Between really low numbers and the hunting pressure, it’s definitely a tough go.

Used to be some of the best elk hunting in the province.. it is a highway in there now. As mentioned elk come out of there every year but be prepared to either bust your azz getting into the back drainages or join the crowds of people pounding the roads

The Bow Only Season is usually the busiest season in R4. It's the first opportunity hunters have to get out for elk locally (and scratch the itch to hunt), it provides the best opportunity to harvest an animal and 52% of R4 residents tic the box that they utilize archery tackle. (doesn't mean that's their primary weapon of choice). My personal observations are that I do find the number of hunters in the bush, really slows down after Sept 10th.

Was there 2 years ago, a decent number of hunters (not as many as some people here have claimed), lots and lots of old elk poop, no live elk and no bugles. We hiked and hiked and hiked. Nothing but old sign.

Wolves howling all night every night.

Talked to a guy who started hunting it in bow season, who said it was great and lots of elk at first, then wolves moved in and it dried right up.

OK Thanks, I guess that could happen anywhere
