First bear at the scratching tree this year (just yesterday afternoon). Normally I would see them a couple of weeks earlier.

I just watched a bunch of those. I could watch those all day long.

How did you find that tree? Covered in hair? What was the giveaway?

Those trees are somewhat polished with hair usually stuck on them. I have 3 of them on my trapline but that one has always been the favorite. I have been photographing at that tree now for 8 years!

great shots and some very nice bears havent watched them all yet but any idea what was up with the big black with the bad front leg,
do you ever go after any of the black bears.

Nice! Funny when you show people rub trees or poplars trees with tracks up them, they don’t believe you.
The last couple of years been seeing more than normal trees with sine of boars climbing trees to get cubs. Usually find cub hair in a the area.

Got it slapped trying to give the wrong bear a belly rub. :)

There is a highway a couple kms from the tree, so maybe a vehicle? A couple of years ago my daughter and I were quading out that way and saw a 3 legged bear. I have photos but have never succeeded in posting a pic here. It was a different bear.

Your videos are fantastic, love the newer cam quality, what camera are you using this year in that spot?

We worked on a project collecting G bear hair. Wrapped rub trees and power poles with barbed wire and collected hair samples once or twice a month. Govt then had a contractor DNA them and then the govt boys (people) recorded all the "facts" This video is exactly how the project worked in the SE Kootenays. Govt no longer funds this project of theirs.

Mickey, Last time I seen the numbers for that project it was something like 86 sows and 65 boars in 144sq/km.
