What are some of the top of the line gaiters you guys use? Looking into grabbing a pair later this week.

And what about cramp-ons? I got some new Blacktail area's i'm going to be checking out when the snow melts and getting too them is pretty vertical, but it is coming back down where it gets tricky especially if I get one while hunting and come out with meat. What do you guys do for extra traction, in dry and wet/snow conditions?

For Gaiters check out fellow BC res Alec at APE equipment:

I bought a pair and they are premium, hand made in Canada, with materials that rival gore/event. He makes them to your specific size as well.

Have you considered Micro Spikes as opposed to crampons ?

Purchased a set of these APE made in BC gaiters and they are impressive as far as quality of construction, durability, waterproofness, etc https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100025765334442&mibextid=LQQJ4d

Upgraded my crampons to Petzl Vasaks last year but both winter goat hunts were cancelled so haven’t tested them out. In certain conditions crampons are a game changer and without them you simply wouldn’t want to attempt the climb. I have a set of micro spikes from MEC that a friend gave me but found them to have limited effectiveness on steep slopes with heavy ground cover such as grasses and moss.

Definitely! To come back out of this place with meat on my back wouldn't want to attempt without em ideally. Already dicey without a lot of weight coming back out, spent more time on my but than my feet last time lol mind you my treads on my boots were done but very steep country there

I did, but I only have money for one pair though and to have only one pair would rather be over equipped than under.

They look nice, and light so maybe down the road when i'm back at work get em for the more mild stuff

Gaiters, I don’t know about top of the line, but I found Kenetrek to have a nice balance of quality vs durability with an added bonus of being fairly quiet.

kuiu yukons are probably one of the best gaitors.
I used stone glaciers last year and there ok. prefer kuiu

These ones are on my list to checkout because i've read how quiet they are

I recommend Kuiu kutana or Yukon gators

micro spikes if it’s real thin ice and slipper logs and roots if it’s thicker packed snow and ice then crampons

For quietness look at the Stalker gaiters by King of the Mountain ..... also Sleeping Indian Designs ... Ridge runner as well ... both are well made products.

It hasn’t been said so I’ll also suggest you need to really consider your calf size. If you have thicker then average calves and depending on your boots and excess pant material you’ll have a hard time getting some gaiters around far enough for thr Velcro to seal up. I’ve researched this before and know from either mine or buddies experience Sitka first lite and stone glacier are too narrow for bigger guys. Presently I’m using Outdoor Research because I was able to try them on. But I’ve read KUIU’s are great for bigger guys. If APE does custom that’s a great option I’ll be looking into in the future

The ones I posted up from Amazon come in multiple sizes. They zip up and have drawstrings at the top. Would be good for the guys with larger calves. I got them through a promotion and, having to be budget conscious like most, figured what the heck, I’ll give them a try. Not my first choice, being a cheaper Amazon option, but more affordable than any name brand. When they fall apart, I’ll consider upgrading. They work for down here on the wet coast. Just need to also try them with the crampons and I think I’ll love the combination. Forgot to try crampons out last weekend when I went out and man, did I wish I had them on.
