Sea Lice is but one of many other problems associated with these farms:

https://news.mongabay.com/2023/01/as-sea-lice-feast-away-on-dwindling-salmon-first-nations-decide-the-fate-of-salmon-farms/

Disease introduction has been confirmed despite DFO's overt actions to cover that fact up.

Time to get them gone...

Dear Friends of PSF,

Our team at the Pacific Salmon Foundation is dedicated to restoring wild Pacific salmon. For many years now PSF has been leading and collaborating on critical scientific research related to salmon health and open-net pen fish farms. As a result of this science and given the crisis facing wild Pacific salmon, PSF believes that open-net pen farming of salmon must move to closed containment as quickly as possible.

Thanks to our donors and with our partners, we have delivered ground-breaking research, informed regulatory decisions, and influenced the global understanding of how infectious agents are affecting the health of wild Pacific salmon. This body of evidence helped secure the federal government’s commitment to transition away from open-net pen aquaculture in B.C. by 2025.

Right now, Minister Joyce Murray and Fisheries and Oceans Canada are in the final days of public engagement that will inform how and how quickly this transition will occur. PSF has contributed to this consultation encouraging the minister to follow through with the transition by 2025, based on a substantive body of evidence that outlines the risks to wild Pacific salmon.

This is your opportunity as a wild salmon supporter to share your voice in the engagement process and support the minister in this decision. To share your views, you can contact the DFO aquaculture engagement team (DFO.PACAquacultureEngagement-EngagementdelaquaculturePAC.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca?subject=null&body=null) and/or email the minister (DFO.Minister-Ministre.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca?subject=null&body=null) directly. The deadline to receive public feedback is imminent.

Thank You,
Michael J. Meneer
President and CEO

DFO Science – First Nation Call for External Review

Internal government documents released under the Access to Information Act (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/a-1/) call into question the integrity of the Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat (CSAS) – again. Given the disastrous state of Pacific wild salmon populations, Trudeau’s government is at risk of presiding over the collapse of wild salmon and a repeat of the large-scale impact to Canadians caused by the collapse of the North Atlantic cod. In both cases integrity of DFO science is at the epicentre.

The integrity of this Secretariat was pointedly called into question in testimony (https://psf.ca/blog/statement-to-standing-committee-on-fisheries-and-oceans-fopo-open-net-salmon-farming-in-b-c/) from multiple Canadian academics at the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans (FOPO), specifically in their assessment of risk from industrial salmon farms to wild salmon.

There is a saying, all is fair in love and politics. Be that as it may, the science behind the Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat Sea Lice report is now suspect and the stakes are very high. Canadians are at risk of losing another priceless fish resource, First Nation trust, a stated goal of this government is at risk and Trudeau’s Government is facing a tough decision with truth, honesty and trust at its core.

‘Serious scientific failings’: experts slam DFO report downplaying threat of salmon farmsA Fisheries and Oceans Canada study found no significant link between sea lice at B.C. salmon farms and on wild salmon, prompting scientists to express ‘professional dismay’

I used to work with commercial diving on the coast, knew a lot of guys that worked these farms, pen maintenance, etc. and they are disgusting places.

Heard that from all of them, they are dead areas with deformed fish. They over medicate these animals with antibiotics right in the feed perpetually. You wonder why you can't get rid of that 'rhea with an antibiotic cycle after that weekend in Port? Blame the salmon farms.

It was the worst job for a diver. These things are scars on our coast.

'A scientific sin': 16 Canadian salmon scientists claim DFO sea lice report was manipulated

A group of over a dozen leading fish scientists are slamming a federal study that found “no statistically significant association” between infested salmon farms and sea lice in nearby wild salmon.

The letter (https://krkosek.eeb.utoronto.ca/files/2023/02/Scientists-critique-of-DFO-CSAS-Response-Report-2022_045.pdf?utm_source=alaska%20highway%20news&utm_campaign=alaska%20highway%20news%3A%20outbound&utm_medium=referral), signed by 16 scientists from the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and the University of Victoria, among others, said the Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Science Response Report, published last month, contained “serious scientific failings,” including cherry-picked data and a lack of consultation with leading experts outside DFO.

The group of scientists also raised concerns over the external scientific review process, stating the report was written by employees of DFO Aquaculture Management and Aquaculture Science and was externally reviewed by one industry-associated professor and “clearly violated any reasonable standards of independent peer review.”

A pattern of scientific manipulation?

Mordecai said the manipulation of data and biased conclusions are the same strategies DFO has relied on when it comes to analyzing the impact of Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV), a debilitating virus widely seen in Atlantic salmon. It can transmit through open-water pens into wild Pacific salmon populations.

“We've seen this in the past,” said Mordecai, pointing to previous DFO risk analyses in the Discovery Islands and elsewhere. “...these are the same strategies.”

Seals don’t eat lice. Seals will eradicate all of the salmon species, it is only a matter of time, sad.

How much money do we here in this province actually make from them?
Cant see how the money we make exceeds the risk we could endure.
We already have enough issues and no funding amidst the bs fed policies.
Its just mind boggling who we continously get to run our country.
