View Full Version : Lower Mainland meet?

rishu_pepper

thought I would edit this for you guys so it was easy to find the info (Elkhound)

Location:

Jimy Mac's (19935 96th Ave., Langley)

Date:

Sunday, December 16th

Time:

6pm

Seeing how the Island has their own Christmas meet, I thought it'd be fun to do something similar for us Lower Mainlanders. Just an informal gathering, perhaps at a restaurant or a pub? Just throwing it out there, would anybody be interested? We could even do Secret Santa or something to spice things up.

Would you be interested?

Ya I'd like to try to make it.

Actually meets have been previously organized at YA YA's in Horseshoe Bay.

Sadly, both times I've been working:o

I think they did one on the spring and one in the winter IIRC.

get togethers are always fun. Christmas is in full swing here, and it looks like Rudolf puked, so much red and green:-P. Unless it was a week night untill the new year...

Unless you guys come to Whistler, I'm out for anything in the winter. Too dam busy...

rishu_pepper

So far the responses look promising.

I understand that most people are super busy during Christmas time (I am as well). We could have it a week before/after the Christmas week (Dec 15-16 or Dec 29-30). I gather weekends are the usual possibilities? Personally I wouldn't mind a weeknight.

As for location, sorry Gatehouse but geographically I think we should pick a place that's relatively close for most people (Surrey? Coquitlam?). Any suggestions for good establishments? I know of a couple of nice sport bars in Coquitlam.

Let's have more people sound in on this. The more the merrier!

Sharkey

Can't do it, but if there was one in the spring when the weather's better, it wouldn't take much to zip down. The Coquihalla is rather unforgiving at this time of year. :-|

If some people want to have a smaller meet in the valley, I'm up for it, but needs to be a weekend evening as the kids wouldn't enjoy the bar like me!
Have a couple meets, the valley guys in Langley and Island and Vancouver in horseshoe bay??
Just a thought.

Looks like we have a lot of "maybe's". I understand it's difficult to get time off during the holiday season, so unless we get more response in the next couple days or so, we'll have to wait until the spring meet. What say you, HBC?

Mr. Dean

Nope. Just to dang busy over the holidaze..... I'm booked SOLID w/ squirrel hunters.

You know what, we already have 10 (including myself) voting "yes", so why don't we give it the green light? It won't be a huge party by all means, but just a nice easy-going time for a dozen hunters to get together.

Now comes the next questions, where and when? Can anyone chime in with some suggestions of where to go? (you don't even have to be the one coming!) As for when, we're probably gonna do this either on the 15-16 or 22-23 weekend. (I know some of you aren't down with the 15th since it's the last day of the season )

For those who voted yes, please post a reply which day you prefer, and a suggestion or two on location.

Cheers,
Brian

rishu_pepper
12-04-2007, 11:24 PM
Now we're talking! Responses have been positive and we have 15 "yes", so we're definitely a go.

Location-wise, I have a suggestion or two.

Foggy Dew Irish Pub at Coquitlam. Good vibes
Shark's Club at Langley (I haven't been there)

Either location should been relatively close for most people. What do you think?

As for a date, we have to decide pretty soon to get this going. I think we can scrap the 15th since some may be out for last day of the season (me included ), so why don't we say the 16th?

And for activities, do we want to do a secret Santa, in light of the Christmas season?

Alex, you are more than welcome to bring pictures! In fact, I urge all participants to bring something to share about their hunting experience this season and past. Oh, and if you have the HBC cap, wear it!

Any reason why that is? I'm not a frequenter of the Dew, and never been to the Shark's club.

So far, the 16th looks good. I think we'll confirm it as our night, any objections?

P.S. Would the mods please sticky this thread? Thanks.

How bout Jimmy mac's in langley not far from sharks and not so much of a club as sharks is

So I checked out the Jimy Mac's site, it looks really good! Probably more appropriate than Shark's since we're there to chat it up, not watch the ball game.

Any other suggestion? Otherwise we'll narrow it down.

somewhere quiet would be nice . the only place i know of would be the shake&shingle in ruskin but i thnk that might be a little to far away for most. as long as it isnt surrey( I would prefer my vehicle be there when i come back to it) and where ever we go has plenty of parking for trucks i am happy.

just looked at Jimy Mac's and it does look nice not to mention the food sounds good & prices are reasonable

Langley is home, and I work in Burnaby - just what's close is all. I'd vote for Jimmy Mac's over the Shark Club.

Seems like most people are favouring Jimy Mac's over the Shark/Dew. I say we confirm this deal as it is.

I must say the turnout is a pleasant surprise, despite the relatively short notice. Give yourselves a hand, HBC LMer's.

Everyone seems to be good for Jimy Mac's, so the location is settled, same goes for the date, everyone is for the 16th.

Jimy Mac's: http://www.jimymacspub.com/Jimy%20Mac%27s.html

So, 7pm okay for everyone? Right now we have 16 people who voted yes, we'll see how the final numbers add up and I'll go ahead and make the reservation in a couple days. How's that sound?

Dirty jokes and spankings aside , I'm gonna give Jimy Mac's a call in a couple days to make the reservations. With 18 already confirmed, I'd like to ask those who voted "maybe" whether they are gonna show up or not; that way, I'll have a better sense of how many people to book for. Post a reply or PM please ASAP, if you voted "maybe", and as for the "yes", I'm just gonna go ahead and assume everyone are good to show on the 16th.

I just called Jimy Mac's, and we might have a problem... they aren't taking reservations for Sunday night... the guy said if we come in about an hour earlier (6pm) we should be alright. What do you guys think? Stick with the plan or move locations?

Mr. Dean
12-10-2007, 12:26 AM
Jimmy's has a great feel, they make you feel at home there. Any time I get over, I always leave flat broke, and then some.

But if they can't accomodate a smallish group and keep everyone more or less together, well..... But I'm thinking that this may be tough to get at any of the other choices either - There's lots of other groups trying to find the same thing.

Another neat place is the Fox and Hound in Aldergrove. OR... We could just crash Elkhound's place.

He's been yapping about having a few over for quite some time.
And he has a HUGE backyard! (insider jk.)

Might be best to just start phoning around and find who will do what.

rishu_pepper
12-10-2007, 01:03 AM
Should we scrap the idea of Jimy Mac's then? Or can we get a few people to get there early and save some seats? (I can't, church stuff morning-afternoon)

I have no knowledge of places across the Port Mann, so I'll leave you guys to decide. If Elkhound is cool enough to open up his place I'm sure none of us would mind. Just bring your own food ;)

Mr. Dean
12-10-2007, 03:32 AM
If people can make it for 6PM, I'm good. The place isn't short of patrons. If he said be there by 6, I'm sure he meant it.

But I'm fairly certain he won't like 5 holding seats for 25....

rishu_pepper
12-10-2007, 09:38 AM
What if we all try to make it at 6pm then? If everyone's there by then, we'll probably get our seats. Does anybody object to moving this up one hour? Otherwise we shall make it official.

The right side of the pub has a couple of good sections that would be good for our group. The rooms to the left have loud tvs for sports fans, not good for talking. I just got back from Jimy Mac's (some of the guys are still there). We had a blast! The atmosphere is great there, and I think I can safely say that we all had a great time there tonight. We even got presents! Ali, would you mind posting pictures afterwards? It was a grand old time, the turn-out was much better than expected; those who showed up: thank you so much for being there, and those who didn't, well, you missed a fun night :-P

Let's do this again some time soon, and have a merry Christmas to y'all!

Cheers,
Brian

It was a piece of cake, no need to thank me  Really, all I did was start a thread and make one phone call to Jimy Mac's. Nothing to it. Back when I was organizing events in rez in UBC, those took a lot more effort (and often with less turnout ). The secret is nag, nag, and nag some more until everyone knows there's an event. Glad you guys had fun, I sure did!

Great pics, btw, Ali. That D50 is some nice camera!

This deal was a blast!
I think at the peak of it, there were ~30 people.

I really like these kinds of things; meeting new people and such. I should start taking notes though - It's tough sitting here and trying to remeber all the faces that went w/ the names now! Good excuse to do it again....

I learned one thing, and that there's a few willing to try out Rishu's Fu Chow Puppy.

Kudos' to the staff also. They did a fine job keeping everybody happy.

Thanks everyone!
