Just a friendly reminder that ticks are still alive and crawling around on the animals we harvest.
Harvested my (first bc) deer yesterday and dragged 500m through deep snow to the truck. Brought it home and noticed these suckers crawling around on the deer. Squished the 2 I saw and checked myself over.

Skinned it out last night and left the hide inside the shop. Woke up to see a couple dozen ticks sitting on the surface.
Hunting in Alberta I never even thought about or saw ticks on an animal. Now I'll be a bit more diligent on checking myself after skinning/gutting my harvest.

Their bites last quite a while... We find them and Ticks on the deer we harvest in region 8.. the difference is Keds have a thorax and ticks dont (seasame shaped)

And adult ticks have 8 legs (4 on each side). Always good to be extra cautious either way OP. Congrats on your first BC deer BTW. 500m is a good drag - hopefully it was downhill

Every deer I've ever shot here on the island has been crawling with ticks all over. I don't look too hard but I've seen up to 20 on a single deer. I've even had them jump from the deer and crawl up my legs as I dress a deer out. I've seen lots of videos and pictures of guys packing deer out like a backpack and things, it makes me cringe, I'm surprised to not hear hunters talk about ticks more when handling their kills.

I'm actually horrified of those damn things.

Saw a doe scratching her face on a stump the other day. My friend said ticks. I said “who cares… we can’t shoot her” ;)

Shot a duck or goose near the ocean?
Things are crawling all over the poor birds.
Worst was a coyote. 1000's of flees. Never touched it.(it killed my barn cat) Lassoed it and dragged it to the bush.
