camp - thinking outside the box

found these pics of a diy camp shelter, and asked about sharing here
This is made form a series of wooden bents that fold up, 1x4 strapping, roofing tin and tarps
and a whole bunch of screws and staples

here it is how it travels, transport on the boat rack or in 'cargo' trailer

No pics of th frame before roof and walls go on, but a few hours with a ladder and a screwgun and the bents are strapped together

12 x 12 was the first rendition , then it was expanded for a larger group , easy to add or delete 32" section
Little tin airtight was used for heat, drying gear for four took a couple hours
All totalled less than $200 with using used roof tin

Looks comfortable but quite a lot of stuff to pack around. I've found a few like that just set up and left behind when the camp pulled out [less the stove of course].

we have cleaned up more than one fabbed-up frame wrapped in vapour barrier plastic that was left behind by someone

the pleasure of one like this is the lack of care or maintenance needed, $3000 wall tent guys are always fretting it seems )
Zero condensation, sparks are not an issue, pack and store wet or dry , variable configuration is nice
Can't be cheap on the staples for the wall tarps though, they came back to a frame missing the plastic after a wind storm blew through, must have looked odd

Lots of people wouldn't use anything like that, it's not up to their standards, they have to get the best of everything or stay in a hotel, rented cabin or go guided.

Anyone try the car garages sold at box stores like CT, Costco or Wally World.. A small bit of fabrication and maybe a decent shelter???

Yes, have seen those used too, as well as 2 smaller 10x10's stuck together

We used to run a 10x20 car shelter, had to shorten legs a bit but it was functional. Way draftier than my wall tent but it did the trick for a lot cheaper.
