Hello,

New solo hunter here, anyone have any recommendations for Hunting Accomondations? I like the idea of having a campsite, cabin, etc to set up a home base for my first Hunt. I can still drive down FSRs and I'm an avid hiker and camper and in decent shape but would like to be close to civilization just in case while starting out.

I did some searching and a lot of people recommend Tunkwa Lake Resort. The threads are a few years old and a lot of responses are "I've sent you a PM" which I get, people don't want thier spots easily searchable. So if anyone has any recommendations that would be great!

Tunkwa area got burnt up really good last summer. If you're set on 3-19, try the Surrey-Sussex Lake Cabins. I've never used them (I prefer to hunt out of my camper or a tent) but they're nearby and that part of the MU didn't get hit by the fires. Looks like they have a new website About | Wildlings Resort (https://www.wildlingsresort.com/about)

Good luck

Lots of cabin resorts in the 100 mile/inter lakes area such as sulphurous lake resort, Hathaway lake resort ect.

Another option would be camping at a provincial park campground to use as a home base with some creature comforts like showers and toilets, while exploring FSRs outside of the park.

If you’re ever looking to get out with someone, shoot me a PM. I’m a relatively new hunter (live in Chilliwack) as well and always up for an adventure.

The cabins at Crooked Lake are nice and the owners there are as well.

I've stayed at Sulphurous lake. Older basic cabins but a lot more comfortable than crawling into the cramper or a little tent at night, though I enjoy that too.

Stopped by Tunkwa in June and was told there are places to go around there, but a lot of the roads will be closed. They said that the government stipulated an 18 month closure (not sure when that started), but it will include hunting season this year. As a side note, I see Tunkwa Lake Resort is up for sale...$4 million plus.

If Region 8 is within the sphere of places you wish to hunt there are some cabins past Cherryville on Hwy 6. I have no idea what the amenities or prices are but there are many FSR's to explore and Region 4 is also within reach to provide more options. Not much for infrastructure in Cherryville but you're less than an hour out of Vernon. Don't even have a name or link for you but I believe it's at or just past the Gold Panner.

Edit: link to Gold Panner. Camping & cabins. There was another outfit farther east up the road, YD Guest Ranch but it may have folded. Signs I saw a couple years ago are gone.
