Hey everyone, I’m probably going to get roasted for asking, but thought I would anyways Because If even one person provides a tip it’s a success. Me and a friend won a shared LEH for November moose in 3-29A. I have spent quite a bit of time up there heading into some of the lakes for fishing, and done a bit of mule deer hunting In the area, but since it’s my first Moose LEH I have 0 experience hunting moose. A few questions I have are:
Where are you typically finding moose in November? Are they in swamps or in alpine or bush?
Would you drive more of the areas or still hunt on foot?
What are they feeding on that time of year?
If anyone has any tips or answers to these questions that would be amazing.
I’m from Kamloops / Salmon Arm and took the first 7 days of November off and will sleep in my truck out there grinding for a moose, and then hunt all the remaining weekends both days.
Anyone have any tips on the area specifically?
Thanks in advance, can share some good spots for fishing in almost all the lakes around Kamloops

That is a cow/calf draw. Forget the swamps. That late in the season the ice is hard on their shins.
Just find some tracks in pairs and put your boots to the ground. Shoot the younger animal and preferably up hill above the road. Easier to pull downhill than uphill..

Thanks Jagermeister, It is a bull draw, not a cow and calf draw. Code 4063. Thanks

Don't underestimate the size of a moose and the struggle to retrieve it. Better to take it out in pieces if you get one in a tough spot. Be prepared with rope and saws. My buddy was gutting one a few years ago and the hoof swung back and hit him in the head and almost knocked him out, and it was dead! BIG animals.
That area will be pounded all fall so expect the moose to be on hyper alert. Good luck!

Not sure if Tsintsunko Lake falls in your zone; my father has seen moose there this spring.

Contrary to popular belief, there is a possibility of rutting action early November: I watched a cow & a bull calling back and forth on Nov 2nd once, it was like a prequel to a moose porno...so calling can work..

That being said, bulls can be Bachelor'd up by then seen that lots in November.. they will be trying to recover from the rut, so they're eating lots, and that time of year they love red willow...newer clear-cuts away from heavy hunting pressure can be productive..

Thats a tough draw! I would say your best bet is the last 2 weeks of Nov only cause your draw falls right into the GOS of spike fork there for the first 2 weeks of Nov. thats being said your likely to have better chance calling in the first 2 weeks as you might still be able to get one to come in but be prepared for lots and lots of people in there that time of the year for first 2 weeks of Nov. So have a few back up plans of scouted spots you wanna hunt.

Had an LEH last year for 3-30, saw several cow moose but the floods kept me from getting out more...the higher and the colder the better was what we drew from successes in previous years in the post-rut phase. If your cold sitting in your truck, you best believe that bull is moving around trying to keep warm through eating/foraging

I also echo bchunter181's thoughts about trying to go the last two weeks - people tend to stay at home as the temps drop and the deer rut fizzles out

Just my 2 cents, best of luck

Been a part of the same on Nov 5th. Totally weird deja-vu sorta thing. Same date, same cutblock I’d taken a mid-sized bull out of on a LEH tag a few years before, and exactly the same weather conditions - snowing like the dickens.

My brother and I spotted the pair when looking for a spork, and after watching a while, the cow kept calling, my brother and I called the bull 1/2 way down the cutblock, then the cow called him back. We did this two or three times, and it just might have been an awesome experience.

^^^^definitely an awesome experience, it's so cool to hear a mature bull calling back, sends shivers down one's spine...lol not as much as an elk bugle though..

You’re up Scotty Creek I believe? If it’s the October draw, get used to calling, go early October as the rut seems to be strong near the end of the first week, up there the moose tend to like the thick woods but also have some open cuts, walk some roads that ATvs can’t travel and find sign, once it’s heavily used try calling then go from there
