Yup, new boss will be the same as the old boss I am afraid.
Heres Eby complains about interest rates going up, even though inflation going back up is a real threat and would certainly demolish the lower income folks, he won’t even take time to point the finger at himself and reduce gas taxes etc here in the province.
There is so much hypocrisy in our government, I can’t even begin to explain how stupid we the voters are to continue this to happen and allow clowns like this to even run our country/province.
Just look south to see how stupid it is.
One guy can’t remember his name, McConnel, the next clown opposing everything that should be in a cartoon series, Trump, and the leader of the pack can’t even stand up and spends more time falling on his ass, Biden.
We are all doomed.

Wow. This is Post #516 and the thread has been going for well over a year since I posted the first one in June 2022.

I took it real easy last year, one trip from Vancouver to a spot about three and a half hours away, one deer and back home. I probably burned more fuel going back and forth to Delta duck and snow goose hunting over the fall and winter than I did deer hunting. Skipped black bear hunting. I probably won't be doing that any more 46 years since the first one in 1976. Just don't need that much meat any more.

Seeing as I have been so parsimonious with fuel and travel over the last year and a half this fall I might splurge, spend my savings and go up to Region 3 with some of my hunting pals in October if I can escape some other commitments. I don't usually like to participate in huge hunting camps, but then again it doesn't matter how many are there. I enjoy the company around the campfire in the evening, the shared food and drinks and I can still go off and do my own thing in the bush during the day. They are mostly drive-around hunters anyway whereas I don't usually drive far from camp but walk and sit a lot.

Bugle M In

My hunting partner has decided to call off our hunt.
Citing fuel costs as the big reason.
He just got a letter from the bank that he has 1 year tensing before refinancing his mortgage!
I think the reality of a 650k$ + mortgage and the probability of the next refinancing being possibly 3-4% more next time around has got him a little shook up now!
Rightfully so!
I wonder how many more hunters are in the same boat?
And ti stick with the OP, who knows where gas prices will be next year!!??
If gas prices (oil) do fall, it will be for the simple fact we are in a bad recession.
Stays up or goes higher, means we in Stagflation, which then goes back to what I said initially,
that many might not have the money because of the rate increases on house payments.
It must be having an impact on the smaller communities now, with less hunters out and about and not doing their big trips.

I paid $1.899 and I thought I was getting a deal on diesel. That is crazy. It's well over $2.00 now ! We are well and truly being gouged by the oil companies.

Bugle M In
09-16-2023, 01:24 PM
Only a few things I can add to the last post.
The Saudis keep reducing production thus keep profits high vs costs.
The Russia affair doesn’t help the world wide market price.
And on that note, the US has depleted their reserves and now “need to buy back”,
so a great way to put max pain on the West.
The only contradictory factor is, China was to start roiling again once they dropped their Covid policy, thus ramping up their factories, thus further consuming more oil, thus more demand vs supply impacts.
However, China isn’t getting any traction in their economy like many were speculating.
So, they ain’t chewing thru oil like they should be.
So yup, political monetary policy and political unrest is “causing a gouge on the price of oil/fuel.
Not looking good.
And if it does drop in price, probably means some no longer have jobs to afford the cheaper anymore.
Just saying.

Carbon Tax is a little under 19 cents on diesel when we were paying $1.20. The price goes up to $2.20. Where the F does that the extra buck go .It aint the Carbon Tax. The price of oil has been fairly steady at $87.

Does she have a sister??

And B-M-I, those are all good points, but then remember that Canada has enough oil up north to NEVER import a single barrel. We just effed up (by we, I mean the dipshits) and sold all the leases to offshore companies, so we have to buy back our own oil. I’m absolutely the farthest thing from a socialist, but I do appreciate Chavez putting Venezuela first and having $0.10 per liter gasoline when the rest of us were paying $1.50!

Just got back from a moose hunt in R5. Gas was $1.71 in Quesnel, $1.68 in Williams Lake, $1.71 in Lillooet, all of which is somewhat reasonable in today’s pricing. Then, when we got back to the Island, which is the land of fruits and nuts, Canada’s California, we got jolted back to reality and had the privilege of paying $2.07 for that same litre of gas. 39 cents per litre difference between WL and the Island. Gas price analyst Dan McTeague says drivers in Metro Vancouver should wait until Wednesday to fill up their tanks.
"Christmas came early," said McTeague of GasWizard.ca. "Holding off for the next several hours could prove putting an extra $10/$20 in your pocket, and I think it's certainly welcome news."
He predicts the price at the pump will drop to 184.9 cents per litre on Wednesday, a twenty-one cent decrease that would mark Metro Vancouver's biggest daily drop in 2023.

McTeague said the anticipated price drop is a result of a variety of factors, including the switch from summer blend fuel to the cheaper winter blend and recent government decisions in California to ease fuel specifications.

I can wait til Wednesday.
But I am not so certain gas prices will go down anytime soon.
All I know is, these prices certainly are influencing what I do these days.
Or rather, what I am not doing!
Just no way right now to even consider a big long distance hunting trip.
And my hunting partners don’t seem to be ringing my phone off the hook either.
They are both wondering what their new mortgage payment will be by this time next year.
Worst part is I fear folks is, if we see reasonable fuel prices again, it will because the economy crashed.
And we all know what other problems come with that.

Market wise, price per barrel is climbing for the most part, and many speculate with Israel etc, expect it to go higher and some parts of the world use it for heating.
Think the only way we are ever going to see reasonable fuel prices again is if there is a world economic downturn or worse, collapse.

Trudeau says there will 'absolutely not' be further carbon tax exemptions

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is standing firm that his government will not make any further exemptions to the carbon tax after announcing a three-year break on heating oil.

"There will absolutely not be any other carve-outs or suspensions of the price on pollution," Trudeau told reporters on his way into Tuesday's question period.

Last week, Trudeau announced that the government would exempt heating oil from the carbon tax for three years. He said the pause is meant to give Canadians who use oil to heat their homes more time to switch to other sources, such as electric heat pumps.

But the Liberals are facing increased political pressure from the Conservatives and some provincial premiers to exempt fuels like propane and natural gas from the tax.

Last week, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith called on Ottawa to apply the same exemption to natural gas, used by a majority of residents in their provinces for heating.

On Monday, Moe upped the ante by declaring that SaskEnergy — the provincial Crown corporation responsible for natural gas distribution — wouldn't collect the carbon tax starting in January if an exemption wasn't extended to other heating fuels.

"I cannot accept the federal government giving an affordability break to people in one part of Canada, but not here," Moe said in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The official opposition, B.C. United, just came out swinging against the provincial carbon tax.

B.C. United Leader Kevin Falcon announced that if they form government, they will:

Permanently eliminate the provincial motor fuels tax which will save drivers 14.5 cents per litre of gasoline in most of B.C.,
Cancel future carbon tax hikes,
Remove the carbon tax from all home heating fuels, and
Remove the carbon tax from all fuels used on farms to bring down the cost of food.

I am all good with getting rid of a lot of these fuel/carbon tax BS.
Yes, he is trying to “buy votes”.
But, on another front, I guess it’s obvious that folks are feeling the pinch due to monetary policy, raising interest rates and trying to fight the inflation all the governments and corporations created.
Which means giving folks a break when they feel the punch means further raising if rates later, imo.
What I am saying folks, there’s no winning!
There is no soft landing coming!
Its going to hurt eventually.
Dont mean to be a prick or doom and gloom, but we got a rocky road ahead!
Just listened to a guy complaining in Rona about how much more his mortgage has become.
If fuel goes down, it will help.
But it’s going to be for all the wrong reasons.
Buying votes and major recession.

Big price drops starting to happen and LM is at the cusp of being a buyers market now!

I’m betting we’re in for a bit of an oil shock. Houthis attacking American backed oil infrastructure around the Red Sea and Ukraine attacking oil infrastructure in Russia means there’s going to be less on the market.

And wars are fought with oil so if any of these conflicts widen than we’ll be looking at higher prices everywhere.

Our local BC side of the border is $1.68 for regular. The nice thing is, the USA station right at the border is actually owned by four local BC families. So even if I buy gas in the US, I’m supporting local business. The BC side gas stations are owned by the same “consortium” that owns ALL the “independent” stations from Princeton to Castlegar on Hwy 3. It’s a group from India and they gouge pricing big time. Trail BC (the next closest town) is consistently $0.20 per liter less than the rest of these a-hole stations.

I'm not sure I'm so worried about my spending supporting local businesses. At this point, I am only worried about how I can save at the pump and if that means my dollars are injected into the US economy...so be it. When I'm saving $50/fill, I'll give my money to anyone other than Canadian gas stations.

Yesterday it was $2.05 in Whiterock, and $1.56 CAD in Blaine. That’s $0.51 per liter cheaper. Add the $0.17 carbon tax that I hear is dropping April 1 (am I correct?) and we are at $0.68 per liter cheaper. It’s unreal. My Tundra gets 12 ish MPG and with a 125 liter tank, it’s over $80 per tank in savings. My local USA station is owned by people in my neighborhood, not Americans, so I get to save a crap ton of money, and support my local economy too.

We were looking at properties in the Eagle Bay Area, and almost bought one, before ending up with our spot down at the border near Grand Forks. The extra cost of living that far from the border would make me want to do very bad things to those in power. I feel for those of you with thirsty trucks that live far from Alberta or the USA.

The carbon tax increase is 3.3 cents/litre. I'm sure the stations will round that up to 4 cents plus their costs go up too (transporting the fuel to the stations) so 6 cents. We'll see how it goes.

Vote Liberal or NDP and look forward to $2.50 or more within 5 years. The only escape is to go EV and skip buying the gas.

Honestly do people really believe a change in government will make that big a difference in fuel prices. Gas prices in Alberta have risen by over 13 cents/liter in just over a month with a Conservative party. As far as electricity, the governments will just let the price be decided by the market, much as they have done with rental prices across the country for housing. The only way things are going to get better is when people are backed into a corner financially. When they can't afford to pay to put a roof over their head, and put food on the table. When they are mad enough to demonstrate and bring the country to a stand still. We are not there yet....but in my opinion we are getting close.

Headed to work tomorrow, so I'm going to pop across the border to Blaine and fill up the truck and 100L in jerry cans. Should be around $1.65/L CAD. Likely save around $70 CAD.

Blaine $4.49/gallon. ~$1.63/L CAD. Saved around $.30/L. Filled truck 90L and 100L in Jerry cans. Approx. $60 savings.

Going to do that every two weeks in summer to supply fuel to my Malibu boat, as well as, my truck and yard equipment etc.

Should save $1,500 annually, as I plan to do this as much as possible until the next Federal election.

This is my way of giving Trudeau and his BS carbon tax the big middle finger.

All I have for tools is how I vote and where I spend my $$.

No I didn’t!

I only buy gas in the USA. I was in Idaho the other day on a scouting trip (some amazing spots found) and it was $3.57 per gallon. That’s $1.24 CAD per liter.
