Sad that this type of thing continues to happen.

See, now this is purely a case of “intentional” vs accidental.
To me, the ban should be longer.
Just another black eye for “ hunting” as the cbc and other media like to term vs poaching.

That’s a joke of a fine and punishment. How are they allowed to hunt again?

Probably cost more to prosecute them than the fines they got, these cases should be plus court costs. Any names to attach to this case?

Any hunting ban is useless as they have no respect for the law or the animals they poach. Seizing their vehicles and anything else related to this poaching incident would be a good start.

Insufficient penalties imposed for what they did.
Has to be much stricter to be preventative IMO.

yes fines/charges are not enough, time for hunters to show that this is unacceptable and they actually care about wildlife and right letters to there Premier/ MLAs etc
about illegal activity to all wildlife and lack of persecution. This does not just happen to ungulates hunters are shooting bears wolves and cougars as well and leaving them.

It’s murder, how about a murder charge? And minimum hunting ban for life and 100k fine.

^^^^^^Are you serious? Murder? Seize everything used while they were poaching and give them 6 months in jail.

If the government gives all our land away and restricts access there will be a lot more of this unfortunately

Yup, harvesting them for meat is one thing, but leaving 2 to spoil is unacceptable in every way...I hope they throw the book at them..

Take hunting license away for life simple and a good fine.

So larger penalties than property theft or B&E or rape?

page 20 of the regs
DISPOSAL OF CARCASSES OR WILDLIFE PARTS
4Carcasses or part of a carcass of an animal or fish are included in the Wildlife
Act definition of an attractant. Other than for the purpose of hunting in accordance with the provisions of the Wildlife Act and regulations, it is prohibited to provide, leave, or place an attractant in, on or about any land or premises where there are or where there are likely to be people in a manner in which the attractant could attract danger- ous wildlife to the land or premises and be accessible to dangerous wildlife. A person that commits an offence under this provision is liable, on a first conviction, to a fine up to $50,000 and/or a term of imprisonment not exceeding 6 months.

Not exactly the same scenario as poaching but if the penalty for disposing of a carcass/parts of a carcass is up to $50,000 and 6 months in jail, then why can’t the penalty for poaching 3 moose be seizure of items used while poaching, $100,000 and 6 months in jail?

I also don’t agree with the short sentencing for rape, b&e or theft of property.
If poaching was labeled as murder when charging someone with poaching….it could mean the end of hunting….after all wouldnt buying tags and going hunting then be considered legalized murder. We all know that’s how the anti hunting crowd would try to spin it.

Not nearly enough punishment. Vehicles and all firearms should be seized, maybe even the home. Jail time is warranted. Let's have some photos of the 2 poachers so they can be shamed publicly.

Except that they were POACHING, and you don’t need a hunting license to do that, so who would care if they were taken away??!!

PLUS COSTS, don't forget the hefty costs of courts, judges, sheriffs etc etc etc, there is no way the fines/penalties should cost taxpayers a nickle.

I don't resent someone sustenance hunting for their family (regardless of race), but leaving the moose to rot is unacceptable. :(
