Last day before I had to go back to work, and damn my knee was sore...

Finally pulled myself out of bed, grabbed my pack and headed for the hills.

A few hours later, I was rewarded with this blacktail:

haven't hunted blacktail but that looks like a Cranker blacktail, nice job gatehouse, do you have any better photo's to share.

It wasn't easy.My knee was sore!! :smile:

I've been spending alot of time hiking up and down some pretty rugged terrain, learning a few different areas. This guy was a steep hike up through some nasty stuff, until I got to the big opening.:smile:

Got lots of help from my buddy (who shot the 150 Blacktail posted here) over the last month. He gave me some very interestign knowledge abotu the balcktails and thier behaviour, and how to find a big buck. He deserves alot of credit. I've shot lots of blacktails, but this is the biggest, by a looong margin.:smile:

Also, I had a a bit of a pack out, but the Bull Pac handled the load with ease. And some of the pack was uphill!! My pack was sure heavy, but bearable. Nice having a pack that takes the weight!!!

Rifle is a Bill Leeper custom 300WSM, Mdl 70 action, Smith barrel, Bansner stock. Shooting 180gr TSX bullets at about 2985fps.

Buck was quartering towards me at 370 yards, I hit it just inside the shoulder, the bullet traveled the length of the body, it exited out his lower hind end and smashed the rear knee. Bang flop.;)

You didn't see many deer because Pemberton is devoid of wildlife. And the locals are unfriendly, too. Avoid the place....It's a hellhole.;)

I think I recognise the type of tree's in the background...I think I may have hunted there the past 5 yrs...I dont think B&C recognises deer or any other wildlife in that area though !.....hehe.......

The Pemberton area is as good as it gets for BC blacktails.
The nicest blacky I ever shot (not as nice as your buck) was within sight of Anderson Lake....That country makes my knees hurt just thinking about it!

I wish the island deer had half of the feed and ginetics of those around your area....Instead we got the suitcase gene! :lol: :lol:
