Hi,

Perhaps I am reading this wrong, but are the the regulations either bow weight or bolt weight dependent? Bow B- So I have have a 20lb crossbow with a 251gr bolt? or a 121lb bow and a 5gr bolt. Obviously hypothetical, but to illustrate a point.

Bow B (Crossbow) (does not include compound crossbow)- Must have
pull of no less than 55 kg (120 lbs) or a bolt (quarrel) weighing no less
than 16.2 g (250 grains). For big game, the bolt (quarrel) must have a
broadhead of at least 2.2 cm (7/8 in) at the widest point.
Bow C (Compound Crossbow) - Must have pull of no less than 45 kg
(100 lbs) at a peak weight or bolt weighing no less than 16.2 g (250
grains). For big game, must have an arrow with a broadhead at least 2.2
cm (7/8 in) at the widest point.

Thanks,

Chris

Obviously hypothetical, but to illustrate a point.

The vast majority of hunting crossbows exceed both parameters.
In fact I cannot think of any that are not - excluding "toys" that is.
One would be foolish to hunt with anything less.

My current set-up is well beyond spec with a near 300 lb draw weight launching 400 grain arrows at 365 - 370 fps.

For sure, I was thinking of a small game setup.I should have added that for context as both B and C are the minimums for small game. In our regulations a Deer bow and a small game bow are the same  . I don't want to use my 400fps bow for grouse, even 120lb bow would be excessive and lead to arrow damage and loss when shooting things on the ground. I want to make sure if I find a nice 80lb bow that I will be within the law when hunting small game if my bolt is heavier than 250gr.

It would be nice if they just used a standard such as minimum fpe and Slug.
