Story #1. So this story starts off with a nice white-tail buck I shot last Monday in region 3. I was walking on old bush road (with my wife) around 10am after hunting mulies up higher in the morning. Just saw some does up higher. There seemed to be lots of tracks around down low too, so thought we would go for another walk before lunch. Just 5 mins from the truck we spooked up a nice buck. He went about 75 yds, I whistled, and grunted and he stopped, but in some tight mature trees. I couldn't get a good shot, and could only see antlers and rear end. After putting my gun up two or three times he stepped to wear I could see front shoulder, so I though, well it's now or never... he's gonna bolt.

I made a nice comfortable shot, but made the 1st mistake of not watching him run away. Then in the excitement, I went up to where he was standing too quickly, instead of listening, but it was quite noisy from the wind anyways... So no blood of course. My wife and I looked for a few hours or so, but there was lots of tracks around so it was hard to tell where he went. Still no blood. I wasn't overly confident in my shot, but I did think I had hit him. I gave up and went hunting more. I should have gone back because we had all afternoon.....

I went back with my Dad to try to hunt him more on Friday, but as soon as we started to walk in I could hear ravens..... I knew I had got him.... Sure enough found him another 100 yds past where we had looked. Tough one to swallow, but learned a good lesson. I am not sure we would have found him without a blood trail or not? Hard to say really. If I am confident in my shot, I will con't to look harder next time. I cut my tag, and took the antlers. Not bad for my first white-tail. Too bad I don't get to eat him.

Story #2.

Bought another whitey tag and headed out east of Vernon today with my brother. Get to our spot right at daylight, a little later than we wanted but oh well. Seen a nice 4 point mulie right away (still driving of course) Con't on up the road, about 100m from where we usually park, and there is a big group of whitey's. Out we get, and my brother takes a minute to decide if he wants him.... I am more meat hunting to fill my dissapointment from yesterday, so I am like hurry up!

Then I see a 2 point too. So I said c'mon take him, double header!!!! He shoots first. Good hit he says. I go to shoot the 2 point.... Doh! Safety was on. Deer runs. So up the hill I go, knowing where he will go and try to cut them off. I just get there, catch my breath, and 2 does run accross the road in front of me. I walk a few steps and see the 2 point. I grunt at thim and he runs toward me, but not giving a shot... few more grunts and after what seemed like for ever, he turned enough to get a shot. A shoulder/lung quartering shot, but I figured I had already used up my chances, so I took him anyways.... plus my freezer is really empty this year!

We had them loaded by 8:00 .

Not a bad too day of White-tails! The Deer on the left is mine from yesterday. 5x5. The one on the right is my bro's from today, 4x4 and the 2 point in the middle.

I posted some better pics through that photo-bucket. Seems like a good photo sharing site.

Can someone tell me how they get their pics (not as an attachment) to show up directly in the thread though????

Well, I appreciate the guesstimate, but I did a rough score on it and I think it will be lucky to make 130. I posted some better pics. I will do an official score soon with my Dad who has scored animals for the Vernon fish and game club.

I am still happy with it as my first decent whitetail.
