With still wanting to be able to bowhunt, but not able to draw a compound anymore due to shoulder problems it was time to switch. Should be able to put some meat in the freezer!

There are some pretty crazy crossbows out these days. The Ravin 500 is pretty slim and goes 500 FPS.

My shoulder is pooched also.
Looks like an Excalibur, mine is pinpoint accurate, at 50yd
I’ve robin hooded several bolts in my broad head block.
Now I have 5 different targets on my block.
Have fun with it, and put some meat in the freezer.

which Excalibur is that. Looking at getting one soon either the new Micro 380 or the suppressor 400. By the case you have I would assume it’s one of the takedown models.

im currently shooting a older carbon matrix crossbow that shoots like 360ish ft/second. Looking at getting a new one and using the CM as a back up.

my cousin has the Ravin R29 and it shoots 450ft/s. It’s only like 8” wide. Awesome now but I can buy 3 excals for the price of the ravin.

Absolutely. Excaliburs are super accurate and almost indestructible. The confidence you will gain should be almost instant (especially if you use Zombie Slayers). Good luck and have fun

Any Excalibur is an excellent choice my Friend! https://www.tnof.ca/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/Pozitive.gif
The Micro 340 Take Down has a heck of a lot of positive reviews!
I suggest those deer better start shaking in their boots.
As noted, run with .001 Zombie Slayers and you will not ever want to shoot at the same bullseye!
Looking forward to your reviews as you shoot, and some fine tales of hunting success down the road...
Congrats!!

Beyond expense, there are other associated concerns with wheel bows.
They can and do get out of tune somewhat easily. Rectifying that is either take it to the bow shop, or have your own bow press and knowledge to deal with it. Problematic if in season...

The recurves are basically indestructible, accurate as hell, and will give almost any wheel bow a good run for the money to boot.
Easy to work on yourself if ever required, including 5 minute string change outs in the field.
To top that all off, they offer THE Best Warranty in the business bar none.
You likely won't need that, but comforting to know it is there,

Cheers,
Nog

I have an Excalibur Micro 355. I would not say that Excalibur are indestructible because they are not as I had a limb delaminate as a was attempting to cock it. Before you say it, no, I did not have a dry-fire. I am well aware of that since I have been shooting bow for a very long time. And because the bolt has a flat base and not a nock, one has be be a little more cognizant of seating the bolt and the retainer keeping pressure on the bolt so that it does not move.
However, that said, I strongly recommend Excalibur. When I had the limb failure, I sent an email off to Excalibur with photos of the limb included. Hardly an time passed and I received an email back saying that the limb was warrantied and requesting my shipping address. Two days later, a matched pair of limbs were at my door. You cannot be more than super pleased with that kind of response.
And as IronNoggin noted, compound apparatus' go out of time as the string stretches and need more elaborate devices to bring things back in order. Everything you need to tune your Excalibur compound bow can nicely fit in your possibles bag with room left over.

Nice.....you'll have fun. I have a Matrix 380 and an older Exocet 200 and the accuracy is awesome. I like the Micro & TD models but not sure i can justify another one.
Using Zombie Slayers too with Lumenoks - word of advise is to start looking for some arrows now as they've been fairly scarce every time i've looked for them lately.

All I shoot is Zombie 0.001's with Luminoks as well.

There are a handful of custom arrow makers on the Excalibur Forum.
Big John was The Best, but he has now retired.
Boo (Don K.) delivers an excellent product, as I believe several of the others do as well.

Also on the Excalibur Forum are a good handful of string makers.
The above mentioned Boo is among the best, but there are several others there who offer a quality product at reasonable prices.

I personally have four custom strings which reside in my kit and go everywhere the bow does.

Just curious, why do you need a new string? Replacing to improve performance? Servings worn/frayed?
Some of the trigger mechanism "fingers" can be rough therefore a little hard on strings and have accelerated string wear.
When i got my matrix i bought a Flemish string and kept the blue original as my spare, and have since had a Boo custom string made but it did take me close to a year to get a Boo string.

Just ordered a Micro 380 Pro. Where can I get some of the famed .001 Zombie Slayers? What would a good length / weight of the bolts be for this bow for elk? Also, recommendations on solid fixed broadheads?

Alrighty, I have most of the stuff figured out and the bow shooting pretty well. It is very accurate out to 40 yards but using the Overview scope with its distance etched lens at 80 yards it shoots about 2+ feet low. I suspect that it isn't actually shooting bolts at 380 fps so the scope isn't properly calibrated. I have no intention shooting at game beyond 40 yards anyway so its just for fun beyond that. I'll keep playing with it. Cheers
