Anyone interested in helping out with a post season clean up of our hunting spots around the bay? I was out at 64th on Wednesday and it’s grim the number of ammo boxes, hulls and wads etc out there. I usually do a clean up with the dogs and wife, but figured I’d see if any members here would be keen to help out?

It would be great to get people out at Brunswick, 64th, 72nd and 112th.

Photo below shows one side of one log. The odd hull or wad being missed is one thing, multiple boxes stacked up on a log is beyond disgraceful...

When are you thinking? If available I would be there for sure. I always try and pick up at least one piece of garbage when I am out water fowling (sad that every time I head out I can always seem to find at least 1 piece of garbage but usually it's more)

Absolutely. The past three years I've organized a clean up at Brunswick Pt. This year I switched to Boundary and would be happy to bring my group. I'm always hauling out hulls and wads. Just dropping carboard boxes is beyond laziness. No excuse for not being able to take such visible trash with you. If I saw a hunter doing this I would give them a talking to.

I think I know the spot where you took this picture. On Friday I picked up another cardboard box as well as a number of hulls there.

Pick a decent day with a low tide and I'm sure a few of us would show up. I'm in!!

I made this a "sticky" so it's always at the top. Pick a day as mentioned with a low tide on a weekend and lets do this.

I went to 112th on my own one time to do that and in addition to the garbage bag full of the usual boxes, shells and wads I picked up a really nice extending boat hook that I used for years picking elderberries in the interior.

I’d be willing to chip in as well - be nice to get out with a few people who are familiar with the area that may be willing to offer some tips and pointers on waterfowling in Boundary Bay all while doing some good conservation work to boost the opinion of hunters in our area. Thanks

Wow. Awesome to see so many keeners. I figured you’d be into it Keith, but it’s nice to see a good response. I’ll keep an eye on weather and tides and we will come up with a day. Is a Saturday or Sunday better for you guys?

A quick look at both of the next two weekends show wet weather... it’ll be nice all this week right up to Friday evening.

If you give it some time we can see if we can get some funding to pay for incidentals like dump fees, gloves, garbage bags.

If everyone brings their own gloves, I can bring the 1 ton with garbage bags and dump fees will be minimal.

Yep, I am in as well.... It would help if we decide on a date a week out, not "the day after tomorrow", if it's not too much trouble :-)

Just waiting on weather/tide forecast. And for people to chime in on their preference of a Saturday or Sunday?

Redthies

Saturday this week is looking like decent weather, but the low tide at 9:00 am is not super low. The low tide is at 8:00 pm. Not the best time for a clean up... I will go have a look at water level on the similar tide Friday morning if people are keen for Saturday. It doesn’t get super deep there until there is a good storm surge.

The next weekend Feb 5/6 has better tides around 2:00 to 4:00, but weather is an unknown.

It would also be a good idea for people to chime in if they have local knowledge of the various spots. I’ve hunted Brunswick, but only a couple of times, so would not want to “lead” a cleanup there. I know 64th and 112th.

Have you contacted the Delta city hall ? They used to provide trash bags and might waive the dump fees. This was an annual event by Delta- Ladner R&G.

Redthies

I have not. I spent enough time at Ladner city hall when building houses there to not want to go there ever again. It’s not a big deal to buy a $20 box of contractor bags and pay $40 at the dump. My sanity is worth $60.

I've done the Great Canadian Shoreline cleanup past four years. Last year they canceled the event because of COVID so organized one myself at Brunswick. Since I switched to Boundary this year I'll devote my efforts to this one. I know 64th St foreshore the best so that's where my group will be when we set a date.

Anyone besides Keith (Silveragent) know Brunswick area?

Redthies

So I’m going to go out on Saturday morning. I know 64th St has a huge amount of garbage washed up there so that should be a focal point. 112th St is also a relatively busy spot for duck hunters. I’ll happily head to either spot if someone else wants to commit to the other? I have a one ton longbox for the dump run, and a 16’ trailer if there is any big debris, but I think the truck should handle it all. I will grab a box of contractor bags. Anyone that wants to help out, please post your chosen spot below. The lowest tide during daylight is at 8:51 am, but there is almost no change between that low and the next high tide, so I will be there at 9:00.

Post below where you can be...

After this one I would like to boat around the South arm Islands and fish out any floating trash. Last time I was there lots of stuff just stuck up on those island shores. Few people would be picking up there as you need a boat.

tow my inflatable kayak behind it and I can get into the narrow channels. Seriously I'm expecting some piles of junk. Out of sight out of mind.

How were the tides yesterday Keith?

silveragent
02-14-2022, 09:15 AM
Low. We were there from 8ish to close to 4 and didn't need to get wet where we were set up 200m from the foreshore.

I did pick up garbage on the way back and didn't find that much tbh.

I’m going to leave it with you Keith, if I can. Our new property 7 hours away has me gone 3-4 days a week and slammed beyond belief the 3-4 days I’m in town. I haven’t slept a whole night in over a month.

Going to find out if Natures Trust and BAHA are doing their cleanup first. If they are, then will likely join that one. If they are not doing one, then will probably start a Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup as I see there hasn't been one there for a couple years.

There has been some cleaning done around there a few months ago but it’s a big area and new debris is constant.

There's a cleanup being organized by the local MLA on the 13th. Unfortunately I am away then.

Everyone, I thought I would revive this so that we can do a clean up after early goose season and before October ducks open up.
