Well I have been back a few days from my leh moose hunt in 5-02a. my dad fresh tracks and I spent 7 days chasing moose to come up empty handed. We seen 15 cow moose and freshtracks seen some deer but we seen no bulls. The grouse population was booming as they seem to be almost around ever second corner. We shared some good stories and I believe a good time was had by all and rely that what hunting about good time and good laughs and the harvest of the animal is just a bonus.

p.s. this was my first trip with freshtracks as we met here through another hbcer and he is one top notch guy hope to have a few more trips with him.

Sorry to hear about your luck.I live close to 5-2, and have been out there deer hunting for the last 4 days.In that time i've seen plenty of deer, 3 cows, 2 calves, and 3 bulls.Unfortunately i have no LEH draw.Guess thats how it goes.Better luck next year , and keep havin fun. That's what it's all about.

I've held off my post till I got my camera back from 270WIN (left it in his truck) as I have some pics to add.

The trip was great barring we left the meat pole empty ... but then I've never judged a trip on those particulars. It's the comradery, the camp, the experience and in this case, sharing it with 2 great guys.

p.s. this was my first trip with freshtracks as we met here through another hbcer and he is one top notch guy hope to have a few more trips with him.

Flashback:

Yes I met 270WIN through another HBC'er but here's top notch.

After failed attempts to hook up for a spring bear hunt, 270WIN and myself were discussing this upcoming season and he asked if I would be interested in joining his dad and himself on a shared LEH moose hunt. Well I wasn't able to get away last season due to personal reasons and as it came down to crunch time for getting the LEH's off 270WIN through numerous pm's asked if I had sent mine away. Most will find it hard to understand (tough year) but I was preoccupied with many personal things/work and I hadn't:redface: .... so he out and out went and bought an LEH and contacted me for my particulars and sent it away. Then later contacted me to ask if I seen we got drawn. There's top notch. He hoped I could bring along my oldest son (I did too ... another story) but maybe next time.

Flash forward:

Our destination was 5-2a ... a new area to me and I've always said it usually takes one trip into to a new area to get the feel for it to improve successful and it was also a Nov. moose hunt ... something also new to me and what some find can be tough to figure out where the bulls are.

Upon arrival camp was set up ... and I can say, nothing beats a cozy warm wall tent camp. And 270WIN has a great set up ...

The Cariboo threw every type of weather at us and we hunted hard. 270WIN can cook a hearty meal after putting in a good day. His dad is a great guy ... joking, we reminisced of past hunts, and always kept a warm fire going.

We knew where the cows were and knew a bull would be close ...

Time quickly slipped by and in the end a scene unfolded that most of us have been to before and share mixed emotions with ... heading back into camp after the last morning hunt before packing up. Here, father and son share that moment ... in my eyes it was priceless. Something we as a fraternity truly understand and cherish.

Joey it was truly an honour to share this hunt with a great couple partners. Now I know your dad is still yearning for a meal of fresh deer liver and our trigger fingers have gotten far itchier than mark's ... share another camp? ... I'm ready.
