I'll add to my post and give away some knowledge

Knowing that the rut was full on I started looking for rubs in my area the bucks like little clump willow or maple trees

When i started seeing the rubs I would still hunt into the bush found this guy at 130 yards on the fourth try this morning he had tall weeds covering most of him from my view

I had to wait for the wind to blow the weeds over so I had a clear shot.

This is what the rubs looked like beams are only 3/4" to 1" in diameter max.

Great head gear right there. That's some awesome genetics. Are you planning to head back out for another? One can only imagine the big old seniors in that area. If you want to share GPS coordinates I can help research this phenomenon :D

Congrats on a very cool BT buck! Can't get enough of these BT's. I think about them 24/7 lol ... hoping to see more BT threads in the coming weeks!!

I live and breath blacktail deer hunting they are the only animal I go into withdrawal from when the season is over...

Over the last 11 years I have been lucky enough to shoot 15 region 2 blacktail bucks and been in on a few more that my son's, brother and friends have shot I also used to pass on all 2x2 bucks until I realized that they were mature bucks just 2x2's.

I've been working 5 - 6 days a week for 51 weeks straight without a break = I'm taking this week off but not sure if I head up after a immature bull moose - whitetail - mule deer or stay and work around my house.

As to genetics my friend shot one near the same spot a week ago that was also a 3x3 just chunkier I dropped my last 3x3 three years ago appr 15 yards from where he shot his.

One of the things I have noticed is the bucks show in just about the same areas every year I am now starting to get 2 - 3 deer within 400 yards max of each other.

Decent Blacktail alright!
Congrats!

Passed up a lot this season, but if I wander across an Island Buck of that size, he'll be coming home.

Cheers,

I was out with a friend today I now have this guy hanging in my container he's bigger than yesterdays buck.

We are now officially tagged out in Reg 2

Now to head up to either reg 3 or 8 for an immature bull moose or whitetail buck if I'm correct 4 point mule are still open in reg 3

Camp Cook = Big Blacktail Buck Serial Killer! Making it look easy man - very impressed. Mind sharing what cartridge your rifle is chambered for? And how solid is your scope sitting on only one ring? I have a break action .22 that I'm thinking of putting a scope on.

Congrats!

Carbine is a 14" barreled T/C Contender carbine chambered in a wildcat called 338JDJ #2 it was designed by JD Jones of SSK Ind the parent case is a 444 Marlin the load used today was a 200gr Hornady SST at 2350fps the load yesterday was a 180gr Accubond @ 2500fps

That rough spot on his neck is the exit hole.

My son used the same rifle a week ago loaded with the 180gr Accubond loads to score this little guy

Awesome work Camp Cook. That is one hell of a blacktail rifle. You definitely don't f-around. Good luck with the rest of your season in the Interior (should be able to follow tracks in the snow now in many areas now)

Wow! Way to take advantage of BT prime-time here in the Valley of the Fraser variety. That buck from today has some good muscle to him.

I'd say best of luck on your Reg 3/8 hunt, but the way you get on those BT's makes you an assassin for any other species. Less luck needed! :D

I was out running my dogs where I hunt blacktail deer this morning.

Spotted another 3x3 blacktail buck standing 40 - 50 yards from me crazy part is he was standing max 10' away from where I shot a mature 2x2 buck two years ago.

Being tagged out I had to watch him walk away.

Here is the crazy part about this deer season I have never seen so many mature bucks in a season before and I have never seen so few does.

I believe poaching has escalated I did find a does head 1 week ago that someone had left my dogs found it.

Sounds like you're in a great area! I am sure there are still lots of doe's around but good to hear you are seeing lots of bucks!

Sounds like you're in a great area! I am sure there are still lots of doe's around but good to hear you are seeing lots of bucks!

I do not think it is really any better than anywhere else its just that I am in there and have figured out some of the travel corridors - rutting areas.

Almost every corridor is near a small creek/drainage example one spot is appr 1 klm between creeks/drainages over 12 years we have shot 4 deer in that short distance and scared off multiple spike bucks.

Another area is once again between small drainages this one is closer to 2 klms I have shot 4 deer and let this last big one walk.

Yet again another area I have shot 2 bucks and friends have shot 2 bucks all are between small creeks this area is only 500 yards between creeks

Actually I had not put this thinking together until this year I'm going to pay closer attention to in from now on.

One more thought do not just be looking for a entire deer be looking for an antler tine - ear - movement the buck I shot last Tuesday all I saw was a slight movement behind bushes
