A couple buddies and I are staying up in Cache Creek on the November 12th weekend for a Deer Hunt. None of us have ever hunted out that way. I have been e scouting the Loon Lake Area and it looks promising. I just thought Id ask for some help on here to see if anyone would point us further in the right direction. We are all boots to the ground hunters so just looking for a general area with good populations to go and start hiking not looking for a specific honey hole. I have lots of experience in region 8 so would be willing to trade some knowledge as well. We have both white tail and mule deer tags.

Thanks in advance.

I doubt you will see many whitetails other than maybe almost down town cache creek...watch for fire closures...muke deer hunting should be good if you hike and deer will be in full rut...its a big area i would hike like hell as pressure is heavy in all of region 3 this year you cant even go poop without someone watching you.

especially during that time, when reg 5 and 8 are both closed and everyone flocks to popular spots of reg 3 like cache creek.

Whole area was burned during the elephant hill fire. I think most of the roads off the main roads were deactivated and or destroyed due to flooding in the spring after the fire. Not sure what game populations are like.

Sure. Got it in region 8 though. Some E-scouting and boots to the ground seemed to work just fine on this one. Guess thats all the help we really need. Thanks guys!

With your mule deer tag filled, you are limited to whitetails and that area is not the greatest for whitetails. Im sure there are few around hanging down low by the farmers fields or in very small pockets of them. You will need even more luck for whitetails then for mule deer.

Yeah I know, more going up to help my buddies fill their tags and scout for future trips. If I see a whitey great, if not that's fine too.

That sounds great!! Lots of area to hike with out road pressure then.

Nice buck! Hope he was exactly where you saw him online. The ones I find on Google never stick around. ;)

if your MD tag is filled, you might be better off on the hat cr side looking for WT or elsewhere
there were WT around CC at one point, but not seeing them as much anymore.
As for hunting CC, its an absolute shit show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last year was pathetic.
Since R5 closed, it got busier by a long shot, but the last 2 years have been stupid.
the deer that are there are pushed big time.
the numbers are ok, but you wont see many bruisers hitting the ground because they dont make it much past the age of 3.
too open, too much logged up top, and not as much snow to push deer into migrating as it once was many years ago.
Better area in Oct to find a meat buck.
Just expect to bump into folks all day long, and yes, even well away from the roads!
People are getting out of their trucks, and putting miles on, but still you cant get away from people anymore up there.
Watched 3 different groups of hunters one morning, all going up the same mountain, all at different stages of their hikes up in
altitude on that hill, and none knew there were groups coming up below them or already up above them.
I had a good chuckle and then drove elsewhere for the day.
And with the closures in the new burns for vehicles, expect it to be just plain ridiculous this time.
More hunters than deer up there now.
