Is it worth a trip up to Princeton surrounding areas for deer for a week or is it over hunted waste of time?

Buddy was up there last week.
His opinion was the fires and smoke disrupted things in the area.
The old stomping grounds didn't produce much.
A few deer, but not many.
Again, it was my friend that went up, so i cant say whether he hunted the area well enough??
He ended up going up to 70 mile, but again, since the season opened (lots of deer), the deer were fairly scarce.
Take what you want from that.

Worth it particularly if you can hunt mid week and avoid the weekends.

No shortage of deer up there. A couple of buddies have seen very good numbers so far this year. A few smaller bucks and lots of does. Get in there and hunt it hard for the week. Weekends are busy everywhere so no need to worry about that.

It's only over hunted near the roads.

And beware, when people say "princeton" it could generally mean from tulameen to keremeos.

Don't be like me when I started hunting and think Princeton literally meant 2km out of town. Because in that case, yes, it's overhunted!

Man, I used to love hunting up Pike mountain back in the mid 90’s….

Shot a great Muley in the alpine overlooking the coke toll booth one year too.

Yes, exactly. It covers huge territory. Keremeos has some big mulies if you like glassing and stalking.

It's a really cool area, you never know what you might find in a week.

I appreciate the feedback I understand “Princeton” Is huge and just like anywhere else you gotta prepare to get off the beaten path I’m very green to hunting up there still trying to figure out where to go

Back in the day you could stay in Princeton at the Hotel, hunt the Cemetery in the morning and the Lettuce Bin behind Overwaitea in the evening and have a reasonable chance at a 4 point.........of course you could have your rifle in the rear window gun rack in your truck as well and it was ok !

South west reg 8 is a huge area lots of zones to hunt and has deer. Go off the road. In a week you should have no worries finding a buck hunt hard though. They need to be hunted for sure. Personally I’d park somewhere and hike for a day and spend the week on the bush in some mountains

Now the best places to get a buck are by the RCMP Station and the Chevron. :-?

I love all stories that begin with "back in the day" :)

I realize I'm getting old when I come up with my own back in the day stories

Back in my day, you could to the vedder river on a work day in middle of February look up river then downriver and see maybe 1 other guy, but more likely no one.

Nowadays you go there on a Wednesday in February and might as well be a f$#$kn Saturday in October.

It's ridiculous. I can only imagine how the old timers feel about their hunting spots. Way less animals. Way more people. (Now)

lol yup back in the day……….

A little busier now a days alright but you just walk to the next hill or hunt week days and it removes alot of pressure
BC has a lot of places to hunt especially if you don’t mind walking

Now back in the day…….the first time I went Steelhead fishing on the Vedder it was with Ken (BOD on HBC) and another fella named Gary, by the end of the day I had caught 16 fish and released everyone of them, have to thank Ken for his guidance and patience with me.

I had a lot of great days fishing on the Vedder but none that good since.

I don't have that data ... it certainly doesn't seem like it from what I can see. I started hunting in 2007. Every spot iv become familiar has gotten busier.

So in my own experience, it's gotten busier.

Princeton meant Whipsaw to me!!
But, yes, you are right., that many folks sure have "expanded" on the word (and area "Princeton")
I always knew it included south and north and a little bit east.
But come on folks....when you hit Merritt or Hedley....you are not hunting Princeton! ....lol
I give folks the USA border, but not if you are closer to Osoyoos than Princeton.

And some wonder why Lower Mainlanders, sometimes referred to in a derogatory fashion as "604's" by the Locals are so loved by the Locals.
Our Son lives pretty close to their, said it was quite the talk of the Town for awhile.

I still think that guy was posing for the anti hunters as a publicity stunt.

Having witnessed some pretty stupid acts performed by "hunters" I think that the guy likely wasn't an "anti."
In this case, I doubt if someone who is against hunting, i.e. an "anti" would go as far as shooting an arrow into a deer.
I believe he was found to be a liscenced hunter and gun owner.
But heck, who knows ??
