So after a lot of kms on the boots. I found a nice shed on the way out which I figured the bucks would be wintering in. My question is do bucks tend to bed down in the same areas year after year ? Found the sheds on a flat spot overlooking the valley was thinking maybe coming back to this spot later in the year as I could only find does this weekend. Any help is welcomed second year hunting in BC and only shot a spike buck and a bear so far.

Thanks,

Rob

If your finding sheds it’s a wintering area. If the surrounding area gets snow early expect to see bucks sooner but the big boys won’t move down till they have too. You’ll definitely see them in the rut.

Unless a big burn rolls through or the area gets logged, meaning all of the thermal protection gets levelled, bucks will absolutely return to the same spot to winter year after year. Good for you on finding that shed - that is very valuable intel. If you can find a few more sheds then you know you'll have a nice little honey hole. But one shed is better than none, because it tells you that at least some bucks were wintering there; and if you hunt late season, well that's half the game solved right there.

Keep up the good work. You're on the right path. Good luck Rob
