Disease-event in area ravaging wild sheep and deer populations.Granby Project area suffering massive die-offs

Penticton BC- August 25, 2021A disease-event has been found in the Grand Forks area of British Columbia and has ravaged the local bighorn sheep herd. Bluetongue is a virus with no specific treatment, and it has been found throughout this area. This virus is spread by a Culicoides biting fly/midge (no-see-ums).As of 1030 am August 25, 2021, over 75% of our collared animals have been found dead so far, bringing the total loss to over 20. That number is expected to climb as our members attend the area to investigate. This disease-event was found due to the collaring work the WSSBC and Wild Sheep Foundation had done in the area over the last 2 years.

Check their news page, my wife just forwarded this to me

Holy crap this is not good
Have been hoping for this bucket list Granby ram draw for years since some local bros got me into Sheep.
Deer too??
Note they also just finished logging off a large section of timber on the ridge above Bunchgrass from Morrissey to Stewart Creek
Don't know if it has anything to do with this.
Not good

I saw this. So sad. Terrible it is affecting so much of the sheep and whitetail population in the area. Hopefully, a solution can be found. Thank goodness for WSSBC!

That's not good.
Sheep cant get a break it seems.
I remember when the area got hit hard by a bad winter many years ago now and they figured they lost nearly 50% of the MD.
But what is it about sheep that make them so susceptible to disease.

It's been a pretty brutal couple of days out there.

Thanks for sharing this here, I've been totally swamped and hadn't gotten around to it yet.

Cheers,
