my old man and myself usually take the last week off work to hunt mulies around the kelowna area.this year i had to work monday and tuesday but had the rest of the week off.dad's plan was to hunt by himself for the first couple days then we head out together for the rest of the week.
on tuesday at 11 am,i'm sitting in my office workin,the door opened and without even looking,i asked "what did you shoot?"he laughed and said a 4 point.he tells me it isn't tall or wide but damn heavy.i asked what the "story" was,and he starts to laugh again.i just shook my head and said "lets hear it".
he was driving around checking out cuts(yes he is a road hunter,health reasons).every place he went,he ran into other hunters so he decided to just drive into a cut and sit and glass for a while.driving down a main logging road,no cuts just timber,he came around a corner and there he was standing in the middle of the road,50 yards away.when he stopped and got out the deer walked off the road and down a little hill out of site.he walked over to where the deer went and he looked down the hill,the bugger was standing 30 yards down the hill looking up at dad.BOOM,one shot and the 7mm put him down.i couldn't get off work till 3:00 so a buddy of ours went up to help him out.at 6:00 i got the call to clean out my garage,they would be there in 15 min.when they backed into the driveway,my security light came on and i got my first look!!!!!!! the old man got out as i let down the tailgate.i looked at him with my mouth open and he just smiled and said "did i do good?"
now we jump to today.
we drive a couple hours to a place i've been hunting for the last few weeks and have seen lots of sign.we drove into a couple cuts and i walked a few ridges in the trees and dad picks me up at the bottom of the hills.we did this a couple times with us seeing a few small bucks and a few does.we drove into one cut and just before the end i spot a couple does up the hill on the tree line.we watched but no bucks showed so we started towards the end of the cut about 100 yards away.we drove about 10 feet and i see a buck trotting towards the does we just seen.i said there's a buck and he's high.i jumped out of the truck and got a decent rest just as he stopped behind a couple trees.he then started to trot again and i seen he had 4 points and was going to shoot but he stopped behind a couple more trees,again all i could see was the back end of the buck.then there he goes again trotting towards the does,i had a 15' opening till he was behind anothe clump off trees.i put the crosshairs behind the front shoulder and touched off the shot,with my 300wm.the buck was now gone from my scope and i couldn't see him,the all of a sudden i see his head pop up then back down.he was trying to get up but i couldn't get a shot ,so up the hill i run,200 yards,up hill,when i got to the top ,there he was,dead.we ended up back home in kelowna by 1pm.pretty good couple days!!!!!!!
before i get banned,lol,i do have pics but when i preview the post,the pics are just red X's.i will figure it out very soon.
