Hi all,

I am wondering what the best tool is to review historical fires in BC to help with e-scouting ahead of the fast approaching Fall 2021 season.

the BC wildfire interactive map on the provincial website seems really clunky amd difficult to obtain the data I am looking for.

any better suggestions out there?

I have been posting a few youtube from Brents Desk.
Might ask him on his channel.

Interesting question, something I've wondered about but never put any time into searching for the info but your post inspired me. I went to imapbc, and added a layer for burn severity rating. Only seems to show 2015-2019 so a little out of date but it's a starting point I guess. Add Layers >> Forests Wetlands and Grasslands >> Burn Severity Rating. Very well could be other layers in imap that show the info better but it may help you.

DataBC has historical fire perimeter data. I use it in Arcmap but I think you can view it online and probably could get a KML for google earth.

Give this a go and try the KML link:

Thanks, haven't got into it deep, but looks promising.

Check out the 7:20 mark.
This guy has figured out to show the area burnt so far for one of the fires.
Best to start right at the 7 minute mark.
But he shows the total area burnt so far.

iMapBC has layers for them.

I-hunter now has an overlay on their maps that shows burn areas and the years they occured. Plus you can use it to save waypoints, map routes etc. I've been quite happy with it
