I remember someone posting up in the past a resource for making sure of the location of MU borders but I can't seem to find it...what do you guys use? I'm planning a hunt that's right on the border and want to make sure Im legal as the regs are different on either side..

Wildlife Management Units - Datasets - Data Catalogue (gov.bc.ca) (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/wildlife-management-units)

I use this as an overlay. There is a link included for use in Google Earth also.

iHunter BC or HuntBuddy apps for your mobile while in the field.
You can zoom in and they'll show where you are in relation to the boundary.

I use this as a reference as well. But I think at the end of the day a good old paper topo map is your best bet in a legal situation. I have a good selection of the BC TOPO maps that includes areas I typically hunt. You want the waterproof maps, not the books. Generally available at sporting outlets, even Canadian Tire carries them.

Screenshot of GE with MU overlay. MU borders are the red lines. In this case MU8-XX on the west where I was hunting, MU4-XX to the east. My hunt took me quite close to the border at times.

If you have a gps like Garmin (like me), you can get the BC backroads map chip and install it on the garmin.
I think it is extremely accurate and you would be able to use that.

Now if they only had something for private properties etc that worked in the same manner and was updatable would be great.
I too find all this overlays and trying to get it onto a mapping device pretty complexing as well.

I just bought the latest BC Backroads chip for a new GPS and it has private properties shown on it.
I was pleasantly surprised.
iHunter BC shows the private properties for a small annual fee. But it's for a mobile phone.

Thanks, do you know the version # off hand.
If no, no worries.
I know my buddy purchased one not too long ago but he never said anything about that, so wonder if it was still an older version.
Thanks though!

Re: BC government Google Earth land use data file
All of the data is still available, it's just been separated to different datasets and you need to add them individually now. I think all of these have both KML and WMS options:

Cut Blocks:
https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dat...ted-cutblocks- (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/harvested-areas-of-bc-consolidated-cutblocks-)
https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dat...lygons-fta-4-0 (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/forest-tenure-cutblock-polygons-fta-4-0)

Surface Ownership:
https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dat...face-ownership (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/tantalis-surface-ownership)

WMU's:
https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dat...nagement-units (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/wildlife-management-units)

Forest Roads:
https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dat...-section-lines (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/forest-tenure-road-section-lines)

Road Atlas:
https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dat...tributed-roads (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/digital-road-atlas-dra-master-partially-attributed-roads)

Rec Sites:

I’m curious where would one find maps of wildfires in B.C. with information on the year they burned I guess if it could be searched by year that would be best

Its for cell phones. Just Google Gaia GPS. Very versatile app. Have been using it for a few years now.

Ihunter with the private property annual purchase

This is worth it 100x every year. I’ve even been using it for rural real estate purchases. When you see something you like on MLS, you can find it on iHunter and get a decent idea of property boundaries.

I have Gaia with the bc backroads map and it is pretty awesome. I haven’t been able to figure out how to add the management unit boundaries layer to it though. Can someone share how to do this ?

The best way to go IMO. I use both, the satellite images are taken at different times at least in the places I hunt.
