thanks y'all - rule # 1 eat a healthy breaky - rule#2 pack light easy snack foods for hiking and hunting but healthy and drink lots of water throughout the day - rule #3 after long hard day no food prepping to do just heat the stove and cook, eat a big hungryman's meal and sleep well then up early for another hard day - rule #4 make sure u rememebr to say thank you to wifey for being so thoughtful when u get home or she will prep food for other hunters and let you starve (oops sorry rule#4 was inside thoughts)

Are you "F"ing with us, that is disgusting. He's going hunting. What happened to taking a loaf of bread and some sandwich meat and a couple packages of steaks or sausages. I'd hate to see the $$$$ spred out on that table right now. Pretty hard to wake up before first light when your sleeping after those meals. Whatever turns your crank I guess, maybe a bit of jelousy talkin, no one makes me SFA for dinners while hunting, but it does seem a little elaborate.

Hope he kills something big to offset the cost of food

Brambles this started 15 years ago when Peter started a fishing derby with his buds - and when he began hunting I just kept up with it - I am not messing with anyone - it is what I enjoy doing to make his camp a little more home when he is away - I never looked a it as elaborate and it really is not that expensive to prepare for - convenience foods are more costly

sorry bostich I'll try and keep my stories more upbeat so not to scare you - I have always done this for him - used to be smaller portions but his buddies seemed to complain so now I always make sure I add extra for sharing or if someone happens to join them in camp

How much of their food usually comes home?? only food to come home is when he comes homes early - he always eats what I prepare for him but some of his hiking foods comes home

That was an awesome job you did for your hubby Ali. I hope he is very proud of what you did for him ,i know that i would. In my hunting career have never have had that done for me ,like what you did for Peter ,you are a very caring person ,and you should be very proud of yourself Ali http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon12.gif. If i had that kind of treatment from my wife ,i would take her were ever she wanted to go for a holiday. And when i came back from my hunting trip ,i would bring her a bow-cay of flowers ,with a nice meaning card to boot. Way to be Ali ,good on you http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif.

Very nice Ali ! My wife treats me the same way on my trips. Always prepares my meals in much the same way as yours. Believe me, it is sure appreciated after a hard days hunt to be able to come back to camp and just put a meal on the fire to cook. We also have a camp set-up about 30 mins from our house so in the fall when the in-laws are up she comes out every evening and prepares us some awesome meals. We never have any trouble sleeping or getting up the next morning. Keep up the good work because I know your husband appreciates it very much.

We usually eat pretty good. Normally each person is responsible for 1 or 2 dinners but this year there was only 3 of us so one person stepped up and prep'd all the food. With more people we usually do a turkey but not this year.

Ali -- nice spread. I like the foiled veggies; I'll try that on my next expedition.

So...........Peter need a new hunting buddy?heck if he had more hunting buds I would never get a trip in a season with him and have to look for a new partner for me I really can't complain though my wife usually puts good grub in the cooler too.I am thinking the majority of y'all wives look after u guys pretty dern good or ya wouldn't be leaving the house for ur hunting trips

[quote=mpotzold;204984]Where is THE PASTRY? Home made apple pies, muffins etc.(Quick energy in the cold) Anyways you are extremely well organized .(What do the coolers look like when you come along??) if i am going on the trip - well the cooler looks a little different because usually a few extra mouths to feed in the camp - fishing derby coolers are filled a little differently - then the deserts are available

okay got a phone call from Clinton - Peter is on his way home - says the weather cancelled their morning hunt as the wind was so bad - saw lots of different sceneray this time around had the chance at a 3 point but passed it up hoping for bigger and - sigh no meat coming home for the freezer - now y'all know why I have to send that kind of food with him if i didn't he would have to live off tag soup

I never got to ask about pictures as his cell phone cut out on us but I am sure I will have something to post later when he gets home

The wind must be province-wide. I'm in Vernon and it's W-I-N-D-Y here too. Looking forward to the photos. We should add a recipe to the book that's all veggies (no meat) and call it Tag Soup  If things don't look up over the next few weeks, I'll need that recipe!
