Not a much of a story this one. Usually there's some kind of excitement. I guess all the excitement (unfortunate things) happened a couple weeks ago and posted that in the other thread.

Got to camp last night. Realized we forgot the keys for the trigger locks (which really didn't need to be on in the first place) ... luckily I had a small set of screw drivers and was able to manipulate the locking mechanism.

Made my rounds. Found a poop a day or two old. Grass still getting hit.

Went to bed in the jeep nest and woke up around 7:20am this morning and left to go take the rifle for a morning stroll about 10 mins later.

About 2 or 3 mins into my morning walk, maybe 70 yards from camp, I ran into a bear on the trail about 15 yards away. Looked like the same smaller boar from a couple weeks back, just with no stump to protect him this time.

Thermals were still coming down and he's just standing there broad side neck/head pointed in my direction. Guessing he could see "something" was there. Didn't seem to nervous though.

Took the double lung shot that was behing offered for such a long time. Sounded like he ran about 15 yards. Walked back to camp and made some coffee, then we went to retrieve the bear.

Easy pack out, smaller boar and right close to camp. It's in the fridge now and will soon be ground, vacuum packed and frozen.

Will post a few pics up soon when I can get on a computer and go through the camera. Typing this on the phone has been a challenge with my big thumb bandaid... bear hunt wouldn't be complete without a good bite from the Havalon.

Funny I don't think I have worked harder for a bear than this season. Primarily due to my own errors and a little bad luck as well.

PS: Thanks for all the "chin up" and "get back at it" posts / PM's from the thread a couple week back. It helped get me going again.

Good work Sir. It's been a learning year for you and you tuffed it out and were rewarded. Here's to many more successful seasons. You can go deer hunting now and stop for a bear peperoni break. Cheers

Bow season can't come soon enough! Guess I'll have to kill the time with some care free camping and maybe some fishing. Tough break :D

Thanks all. Ground it all up. Double grind, #4 and #8. Vacuumed and froze. Meat score was tiny as expected (even a bit smaller, should have taken the head cheese in hind sight) but I'll take the freezer top off. Still pretty stacked with 2020 deer/bear and a bit of 2019 as well, so it was an appropriate amount for our situation.

caddisgirl garden is in full swing, fishing time and berry season coming up, then deer/grouse time again, maybe a fall bear we're struggling with deer. Lots of good food to be had :)

Good job Caddis. I am always disappointed in the amount of finished meat off a bear but boy does it taste good!

One thing I was thinking about, is my thoughts about the benefit of small bears being easy to "deal with" from dragging around, packing out, etc. Other than "packing out", everything still takes the same amount of time/effort and you still lose the same amount trimming, still have to clean and put away all the same gear. Overall weight versus meat ratio definitely isnt a linear scale, can go up from 1/8 to to 1/2 with size.

That would have been a good bow opportunity, as with one of the encounters a couple weeks prior.

..easier on the ears too :)
