I have spent decades in this area running trail cams and enjoying general outdoor activities yr round.
Of the hundreds and hundreds of trips over the years I have never see any First Nations presence.
Now all of sudden the area is being restricted by FN post fire.

One thing I have learned is when a position is taken you need to ask who, what, why, where, when.
In this case it is Why. Why all off a sudden is this area being shut down by a group of folks I HAVE NEVER SEEN IN THIS PARTICULAR AREA EVER.

Morel mushrooms are a by product after a fire and are prolific the first yr and very lucrative financially.

So, I asked myself why the sudden need to control access of an area that previously has never had an FN presence, has never been an area of interest until now?
What frustrates me is the Gov bows and supports this type of behavior.

Get used of it folks.

It's not restricted by FNs, but by the Ministry of natural resources.
Big horn sheep protection as it reads in the article.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development issued a notice on May 12 that the damaged area, part of an established habitat for at-risk bighorn sheep, would be closed to the public.

Government is going into bed with FNs every time it suits them.
Typically when you have 2 generally opposing sides collaborating on things that is mostly so they can always blame the other party and protect themselves from their own electorate.

Put on a mask and put up blockades like they do. Then someone might listen.

Do you think the BC Gov implemented this measure solely on their own initiative.
Wake up.

The area get's as much traffic as a 500 lb hooker with a limp.
There has been next to no concerns for wildlife disruption in this area other than bike trails on the fringe that have never been challenged.
Why the sudden change of policy one would ask?

If that was the case the Skaha climbing cliffs would have been shut down yrs ago ( key lambing area for California Bighorn )
Nope, still open. Just the burn is closed where next to no one goes.

A friend of mine works for the Province in the Cariboo region and their office deals with every permit request to do with crown land in the area. You guys are screwed and if you only knew half of what is going to be given away there would be an uprising. It will be death of a thousand cuts. Enjoy things while you can because a lot of your freedom to move around out in the field is going to be greatly curtailed in the near future..

This is what I'm worried about and that's why I argued about the land claim deals.
The Royal Proclamation should be made null and decide on these claims on the basis of current circumstances, protecting the rights of non native people.
As of now natives get everything they ask for, with absolutely no regards to the rest of the population.

Again, 2 different sets of rules, one favoring the natives and (a much restrictive) one for the rest.

I understand it's almost all resource extraction.

The first step is to cultivate significant antipathy for race-based rights. Politicians will follow, then the courts.

Since the 1990s.

No.
Since B.C. joined Canada.

I figured this out independently as a 19 year old while taking an Anthropology course in 1989.
I've been warning about the issue ever since.

If a wandering 19 year old could foresee the legal issues, there must have been more than a few smarter people over the last 150 years that did the same.

Past and present Provincial and Federal governments, and most importantly, the citizens, are equally responsible for the current situation.

Wake up and see the writing on the wall. Anything us Whiteys enjoy will be targeted. The new arrivals don't want us and our cultural traditions around. Hunting, fishing, contact sports..anything European oriented is going to be under attack.

The best course of action is to show up with a 100 guys armed to the teeth.

I think it was under Jean Cretien and Glen Clark that our oligarchy decided to use unsettled claims to undermine society. Before that it seemed assumed that gradual integration would occur.

Not a legal or academic perspective, just personal opinion.

What a joke, these Taltan are nothing but trouble makers, I laughed at the video when the FN guy criticizes the mess in the mining camp,,ever actually seen an FN camp,,when they are done they walk away and leave the mess. I work with an FN Band and have the greatest respect for the people, even the FN I work with say these guys are out to lunch. Mark my words, the Taltan will be mining it with Government funding

So so true. And it's happening right before our very eyes. The very near future is Very near indeed. The scope of the change when complete will be like shock treatment to every Canadian who wants access to what was once Canada.A thousand cuts? Dam frickin rights, and make no mistakes folks- the knife is sharp and it's to the bone.
