What brand of saw are people taking (if taking one at all) on mountain trips this year? Why or why not?

Can’t beat a Silky saw. I have a gomboy it’s light, folds, is sharp and has a little case so it slides in anywhere in the pack or wherever you pack it.

Woods brand folding hand saw that can be found at Crappy Tired.

Not the best... but when it finally fails me I'll upgrade.

Ive used the Wyoming Saw II for 35 years and its never failed me, I recently was introduced to the Silky saw and its a nice lightweight option but my Wyoming saw has a wood blade and a bone blade so Ill give it the edge for sure.

x2 Silky. I got the Silky Big Boy last year and it's cleared the trail when needed... I don't want to carry around a chainsaw on the quad.

I keep the gerber machete with saw on the top of the blade in my truck and Ive got a small one for my pack, very good saw for wood or bone, sharp machete, cheap and light.

Used a Gomboy for years. Replacement blades are way too expensive. Switched to a Sthil hand saw. Cheaper and lighter (2 ounces).
Can buy replacement blades for it. Cuts well.

The Silky saws are nice. I’ve carried a Fiskars slide out saw in my sledding and hunting pack for over 20 years. It’s cut down a lot of trees in its day. It was less than $20 at CT.

WE actually have a sponsor of the site that is local to the lower mainland. I bought a silky last fall from amazon just before he showed up. His was cheaper :( LOL

I have Bahco Laplander. Not as nicely built as the Silky, but very light and a bit cheaper. KMS Tools carries a bunch, including Silky and Bahco.

I've gone through a few and settled on a Silky Accel 210. Aluminum frame and the same weight as the pocketboy 170 but with a more usable blade length. Also, the kerf is slightly thicker (stronger blade) on the Accel 210. I've snapped the tip on a pocketboy but not the Accel. I have a large tooth blade and carry a spare fine tooth in my kill kit if I need to use it on bone or as a backup if I snap the large tooth blade.

Edit to add: If you're really weight conscious, you can buy just a replacement blade for a fixed-blade saw. Wrap the handle in paracord and the whole thing weighs something like 4 oz!

This^^^^. I have two - one with a medium for cutting branches/trees and fine blade for bone. Great saw.

I have a 15 inch and a 21 inch Agawa, they zip through wood like a chain saw, especially the 21 inch!

What brand of saw are people taking (if taking one at all) on mountain trips this year? Why or why not?

What u r dooooing would make the difference. I would take nothing, a 6" folding Home Hardware special and a full 36" bow saw that is only 2.5lbs. I almost always take a 24" handle axe 3lbs total weigh. But my trips were only 5 or 6k to a basecamp.
