I was always a Honda guy so I purchased a brand new Honda 2.3 horsepower outboard for the fly in moose hunt in September. I used to have a 2 horse Honda years ago I didn't even pay attention but when I brought it home I noticed it was made in China anyone have experience with these Chinese made ones. I guess everything's made in China these days

Hmm I wouldn't sweat it Honda makes good products..is it light? Paying for flying it in /out..speed isn't important usually reliability and light weight..
IMO GREAT CHOICE.
Cheers

The Tohatsu 3.5 hp is still only 41 lbs too - i like the 3.5 HP over the 2.5  RJ

Big foreign based companies have things made in China to their design and specifications, it's the smaller Chinese companies based in China to watch out for...

Well I just returned the Honda and got my refund I was not confident in buying a chinese-made Honda at a premium price

need a like button on here, this is exactly true. I’m wearing work boots made in China made for well known brand, one year so far probably another six months left.

Search around and find one of the last year 2.5 2strokes whatever brand it doesn't matter. I think the last year merc made them was 2001?

I don't - but they have a very good reputation and perform very well and are light as well.

Hmm have had 3 Honda ATV, 2 Honda generators, 2 honda lawnmowers,1 x 9.9 Honda outboard..DAMN HEAVY..LOL
Everything on that list is still running except 1 damn lawnmower..thing crapped out after only 22 years..
Don't know where any of these were built...just reliable..IMO..
IT'S YOUR hard earned $$$$ you need to be confident in the item you purchased..
Good luck with the outboard AND the hunt.

As much as I LOVE Honda stuff, I'd step back from a made in china one too.
I'd look at suzuki or yamaha as long as they are made in Japan.
If no luck there, I'd look for a mint used japan Honda

Not sure where mine is made but I bought a 2.5 Yamaha. I looked at Mercury and Honda. I did not like a plastic prop. Yamaha has metal prop and is water cooled. I offered the dealer on Langley bypass 1200.00 cash plus 4 adult cookies out the door. Oddly enough they took it and the cookies.

So it's almost as heavy as the Tohatsu, was it cheaper?

I believe it's exactly the same weight as the Tohatsu as that to actually made it. It is cheaper than the Honda and the Tohatsu yes

Nice thing about the yami 2.5 is having a neutral & forward gear choice, few brands of the 2.5 are centrifugal/centrifical clutch, sometimes these engines need a little RPM to start nice to have that option with out your vessel making unplanned maneuvers.
