Well i am up typing this new treat this morning at 320AM. This hunting trip this year was the worst hunting trip i have ever had ,regarding everything. It first started with the dam pack rat ,then hauling elk out of the bush ,including whitetail deer ,and moose. Then my light sockets burning up for my head lights ,the main truck battery cells shorting out ,the pack rat chewing my truck up and building a nest in the heating ducks and heater fan motor. Then i pulled my lower left hip out out of place when moose hunting up at Houston BC. The tail pip on the left bank broke off. The lights come on for the dash light as for the parking lights as well ,with running lights on top of the cab when i put the truck into reverse. The head lights stay on when i turn them off. Left front U joint is making a heck of a clicking sound. And to top it off the transmission is shot ,it is going to coast me $5000.00 Dollars just to fix the transmission.http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon8.gif. The only good thing about the trip is that i got a whitetail deer and part of Brian's moose ,and i was able to spend 7 weeks in nature doing what i love to do.http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif. One other thing that was not to pleasant was that i pulled my back out worse when i was carrying a front shoulder of the moose into the cooler ,it weighed 231 pounds ,that really did me in. I got up to home at black creek BC and the next day had to go to the walk in clinic. The doc looked at me threw some prescriptions at me and i left there in real pain. That evening i couldn't sleep at all pain was to much for me ,i couldn't even walk ,i had to crawl everywhere i was going ,finally i passed out on the floor and woke up minutes latter ,this was at Two AM. i crawled into the bedroom and said to my wife take me to the emergence she took me in to campbell river H. She drove up to the front door got a wheelchair and took me in. The doc looked me over and said that my back lower was out of line and it was pinching the cyatical nerve ,that was what was causing most of the pain ,the pain was going on the outside of my leg right down to the left ankle. He then give me a steroid shot in the hip and another shot for the pain ,the cyatical nerve was swollen up. He give me two new prescriptions to get for the next day. He told me the ones the other doctor give you were not the right ones to be taking. The doc said go to the quierpractor and get your back into place ,so i did . Even now it is still hurting ,but i am 70% on the mend ,my lower legs are getting stronger everyday. What did this to me is my age ,i am perty fit person ,but when you get to 60 and you get up every morning at 4 or5 am and then hunt hard for the morning and evenings and haul out animals and not eat properly you begin to deteriorate ,that's what happened to me weeks of that brutal punishment finally caught up to me ,i lost 16 pounds over those 7 weeks of hunting ,i now weigh 179 pounds from 195. Next year will be a different story ,i will only be going on a few broken up hunts. Well that perty well sums it up. NEXT YEAR.http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif. Wayne.

We need some pains to remind us of our vulnerabilities. By the age of 60, we should know better than to be wrestleing with loads beyond our capability (231# is a bigass moose?). There are other ways.
As for the truck, it sounds like you have some wiring issues, for sure. Damned rats. And anyone with a (I assume ?) a diesel pickup folowed by an automatic, should have a tranny job factored in and budgetted. Its only a matter of time.
Glad to hear your still getting up in the am, regardless. Have a good day.

Take care of the back, soon it well all be just a memory.

The power plant is a 351 small block. What screwed it was that i took my 10,1/2 foot camper with the quad and trailer ,i figured it was to much for the transmission to handle ,i usually only take a wall tent and my gear when headed up hunting ,but me being in the bush for a week or two by myself and hunting for 7 weeks ,i figured i would be comfortable and safer with the camper. The truck is a 1994 Ford F250 and it only has 135000 thousand KLM on it ,it is in excellent shape ,or should i say it was in excelent shape.

H47, my advice to you would be to have a chiropractor work on your back rather than letting those dumbass GP's shoot you full of drugs. The chiros are back specialists, the GP's are good at lancing boils on yer butt. The chiro will fix the problem, the GP will mask the pain with drugs and hope it goes away on its own.

Just my 2 cents. ;-)

You retired then thought it best to take on the world w/ a 7 week hunt.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!

Sorry to hear of the misshaps. I too did in my back once (18 yrs ago), same as yours. That IS a bitch. To this day I need to be respectful of what I'm doing or else I pay dearly. I can still do everything that I want but need to 'listen' to what the body is saying - You'll work it through, I'm sure.

Truck can be fixed. Other than it being a PITA...

I hope you KILLED the rat! ;)

Geez you sound like me! I can't suggest anything regarding the truck of course, but I would suggest accupunture to relieve the nerve pain. It has helped me a lot, but does require multiple visits and can be costly, depending on who you go to. I've been lucky in this regard, as there is a school nearby which teaches oriental medicine and of course the fee reflects that. Hang in there and don't push yourself too hard!

Ali makes a valid point. There is technique involved though and it can be learned.

I had a real NICE therapist work me over three time a week for two months, followed by a good hot-tub soak.

PRICELESS!!!!!

This could turn out better than any hunting trip you've ever been on!

Wayne, Baby steps buddy. You are supposed to ease into retirement, not jump in with both feet and start running. You've got all hunting season to go out. Not much you can do about the truck though. You won't soon forget the season of '07 I'll bet. ;)

Mr Dean's NICE therapist takes a few practice shots while he gets ready for his treatment...yeah, that could turn out real GOOD. ;-)

Off all the 'stuff' they reguired me to do, I would have to say that she WAS the best medicine available... There was discussion of opening me up and doin things with knives, rods and welders.

I was barely in my 20's when this happened. The procedures that they were talkin about scared the $hit outta me! Read; willing to do ANYTHING. So... I took one for the team.

Hard to focus, I'm trying to figure out how to blow out my knee without the pain, so I could maybe get a therapist.

Wayne, maybe the therapist has a sister that's a mechanic and you could get everything taken care of with one call. ;)

At the time, I don't think that I would have survived a happy ending. I'll admit though, I wasn't in a hurry to roll over off of the table when she was done!

It's tough at that age to stay focused on why you're there, wearing nothing more than a pair of shorts.

Wayne, I know you had some lousy memories of that trip but you also had some good memories of that trip, like the look on your face when I told you I had a moose down. or when that big ram was standing there looking at us letting us snap off all those pictures. i think you know what you have to do next year to make your hunt more successful so we will go get em next season. Hey Ali, when you goin to visit Wayne?
My neck's killing me, I carried the other 3 quarters he did'nt carry and was a victim in an accident on that trip...could use some of that massage therapy myself!
