We shot 2 mule three points this year one at 171 lbs and one at 193 lbs no skin no head no guts (on the meat hook) is this the average weight or do these seem like very large deer for 3 points? We where very impressed with how big they are!

That seems large to me. I shot a two point this season that was only 98lbs on the hook.

Maybe it a gene pool thing. I know that the Blacktails I've seen on the tops of Harrison are much larger than the ones we see down low.

The two 4 pts myself and Chappy took in 05, close to that area were 140 and 150ish on the hook!

That seems huge for 3 point mulies. Not to suggest anything, but do yourself a favour and weigh your deer yourself next time, before that guy who is charging by the pound weighs them.

The butcher gave us the print out from the scale so unless he somehow added some weight its correct, and these are very large deer so i have no reason to doubt his weights ,just got it yesterday so i havent tried it yet but sure looks like he did a good job, lots of meat.

Reg. 3 is good for putting up critters that that dress out nicely.

I don't think that the weights are out of line. I shot a 3 point in 3-32 that weighed 202 on the hook. Our scale not the butchers. It was very fat which had to add extra pounds. It was also substantially heavier than the 4 point my brother shot the same trip. It sure was a pig to pack out. In those days we never boned anything out, just cut it in half, tie it on and grunt it out.

I've always maintained it's not about the size, it's about the hunt.

I could run with this one but I would probably get a major "time-out", so I will follow Ali's most excellent example (not:biggrin:) and just keep my big mouth shut.

I better go now as I'm struggling with that concept

I think that people get hung up on the number of points rather than the age class of the buck. Its how old and healthy the deer is not the number of points it carries that dictates its weight for the most part. I think that these are really good sized deer regardless of antler configuration. There is also no chance of a butcher leaning on the hook when he weighs your meat either, especially if you've pissed him off:shock:.

It depends on whether he is an old grey moss or a young buck ????. If they were young deer ,then yes they are average ,if it they were older deer ,then no they would be under weight ,the only way to tell how old they are is a tooth extraction ,or DNA testing.
