Well now that I have your attention, I will tell you the story..Up at 6:30, when I went to get out of bed feet slipped out from under me and did a faceplant into the hight stand...Great start to the day....

Had coffee, went up to feed my horses around 7:30, figured what the hell I would take a drive with the .243 as I have not been hunting for a week....

Drove down the Hidden Valley (paved) road onto the Peavine and then started up Hogg Creek...Just getting light so turned off the headlights, idling along....At the 1 km board a whitey crosses the road about 50 yards ahead of me and goes into the open fir and starts feeding..I glass it, its got horns (1 for sure), so I shut off the truck (Sirius radio is still playing, door dinger is dinging) load the clip into the gun, take 3 steps towards the front of the truck....Mr. Whiteys head comes up, I loook at him in the scope, hes legal, off goes the safety...BOOM....Aimed about 2 inches below his white throat patch and thats all she wrote....The bullet hit exactly where I pointed it, taking out the deers vertabrae and down for good....Was using Winchester 100 grain XP3 factory ammo..Maybe a 40 yard shot...Dragged him to the edge of the road, gutted in less than 10 minutes, on the way home and in my carport by 8:45....

Extremely hard hunt:mrgreen::biggrin:

Weighed in at 70 lbs at the butcher but no signs of rutting up so should be good eating....Since I did not get an elk this year I was not gonna be picky about my whitey....

Not sure what he would score 2" on one tine 2 1/2" on the other.....

It is now officially COYOTE SEASON....

Hmm another "guess the score thread", let's see, 2 0/8 plus 2 4/8, plus 1 0/8 and 1 0/8 for circumferences, and maybe 4 for the inside spread (but that has to go down to 2 4/8 for the longer main beam maximium).

So, it would gross about 9 0/8 and net about 8 4/8.

Sweet. Looks like some good snackin' on that guy.

I pack the box cutter with the carpet blades (hooked) find them great for zipping open an animal, the blade does not go deep enough to cut the guts.....Got the knife at C Tire for $5, $5 for 10 blades, always super sharp, weighs very little. If it gets dull you swap in a new blade, good to go....I still use my old Schrade for the rest of the job, with the exception of doing the anus etc, which I pack a Filet knife to do...
