Where do you live and how far do you typically drive to hunt?

im sure a lot of us are in the lower mainland and driving all over the province to hunt, but I’m curious how far the guys who live in other areas are traveling to hunt. Are the guys from Kelowna only traveling 30minutes on average?

I live in Port Coquitlam and generally drive 2-5 hours one way to hunt various locations

I’ll drive 12-15 hours and take a ferry to go on a 10 day hunt. I really try not to go on day trips, because I hate driving. I’d rather get the driving out of the way so I can focus on hunting when I get there. So typically at least an hour driving from my house before I’m hunting.

Christina Lake, my whitetail spot is 4km from my house and Mulie and Elk spot is about 10 to 15 km away. So not a long drive to hunt

Aldergrove - no longer than about 4 hrs.
1 spot is a bit further but dont go there often (once per year)

most of my hunting spots are 15 min - 2 hours away for shorter hunts. Any time where I have 2-3 weeks I will go 11 hours no problem. I think exploring and seeing new country, chasing diff types of game is half the experience.

Does out the back door count? .. got WT, mulies, elk, bear and turkey galavanting around out there. However I do sometimes feel the need to drive 1000km in search of black tails. When it's serious freezer filling season I hunt the mountain behind the house ... I know where they sleep and where they like to party!

I guess it’s best to know your home ground, easy to scout year round. It’s just too fun to wander all over the province. More efficient/economical to hunt your known local spots for sure. I drove 6 hours last year to hunt elk for 9 days. I got skunked. Came home and was on elk everyday, my “big” hunt will be local this year. Scouting pays off huge.

I have to find good spots around my new neighbourhood, there is lot's of mulies and black bears.
But a lot of land is private, so some scouting is in order.
A friend I got to know I have been talking with about going on a Northern BC hunt for stone sheep.

I live outside of kamloops and I quite often hunt or fish on my way into town to get groceries. Most spots are within 30 minutes but I can start hunting within 5 minutes for most game.

After the first few years of exploring and learning

as much as possible, I found some great places

3-4 hrs east. Between Kamloops and the border.

Starting my seventh year hunting...

im on the mainland, all my hunting has been done within a 1 hour radius of my house with the exception of my leg moose and that was 3.5 hours from home.

lucky to live where I do, can walk out the door and fill bear, white tail and mule deer tags easily and there are loads of grouse ducks and geese as well..

I drove across the province from west to east for an elk hunt and south to (almost) the northern border for a moose hunt this year. Deer hunts were about 3-5 hours away.

I don't mind driving and I like to see this great province. That, and I'm really unlucky at LEH so I need to find GOS.

All over the province. We have such a great variety in species might as well take advantage of it.

I used to hunt 5 mins from the door, then moved to Whiterock, so now it’s 10-15 mins for waterfowl but 3 hours or more for bigger game. I’m going to look at another acreage tomorrow the would allow me to hunt from the minute I walk out the door. I COULD shoot from the kitchen window, but I think it would irritate my wife even more than my usual behaviour does...

Lol. If my kitchen boss caught me shooting from the house she'd boot me right square in the ball bag. To make it sporting i spot from the house then typically start the tractor then lean on a fence post.

I used to be able to shoot out the door and have done for coyotes and other pests but for hunting its the cameradery and camping that makes it wortwhile. Bagging meat is secondary to having a good time.Usually drive 6 hrs to camp.

I've got some spots within 10 minutes and most of this year I was within 45 minutes of home. In a normal year anywhere from 10 minutes to 1.5 hrs usually with the odd 4-5 hr multi day trip thrown in.

45 minutes for waterfowl and occasionally two days if it is a moose hunt. And everything in between, but often about three hours for a three or four day trip.

Usually just 1-2.5 hours and stay 2-3 nights. Local weekend warrior for the most part.

It has been a few years since I took any longer trips, but I used get out for a couple 3-4 night trips around 4.5-5 hours each way.

I found the long drives too daunting. Gotta figure out this teleporting thing.

Hunters that pull off day trips or one nighters 4-5 hours each way (and especially cut a tag on top of that) always amaze me. That's dedication.

New hunter here: I'll drive around 4-5 hours for a weekend trip, maybe more depending on how I feel. I live in region 2 so a big thing for me is to escape the crowds.

Day trips , 45 min to 1 hr. Camp trips 12 hrs or more . On day trips, not uncommon to see a dozen or more other hunters, so we leave early to get to a blind or lookout before daylight.

Black bear about 2.5-3 hours. Typically stay 1-3 nights. I day hunt blacktail locally but the better deer hunting is usually a boat ride to get their so usually stay a week.

Oliver, when I first moved here 16 years ago I was about 38 seconds from a good shooting area. Deer,Elk,Moose, coyotes, had them all right on my acreage. Moved into town a couple years ago after my heart attack and now I'm about 15 minutes away.

Live in Pitt Meadows but pretty much will travel anywhere, species specific. Blacktail deer, drive an hour. Bear, drive 2hrs. Whitetail drive 5-10hrs. Moose this year was 12hrs. Turkey drive too far lol, but love it so I have hit Trail a couple times. Elk I've mostly tried the EK, but might hit the Peace Region one year. Ducks & Geese, 5mins to 1hr depending. Cats & dogs, 2.5hrs to 5hrs.
