Well here’s my 2020 mountain goat, we hiked in on day 1 and spotted a few goats on the way in. All out of reach and pissing rain we decided to make camp and hunker down. We were held up in the tent untill about 11:30am the next morning. My friend got up to take a piss and spotted a nice billy way across the valley up in the cliffs.

we decide to make our way over there and see if we can make a play, there was also another goat hanging out on the same hill. As we got about 800 yards away the goat had us pinned. We stood still in the gale force winds and rain for over a hour untill he magically stood up and shook the water off him and head DOWN for a bite to eat.
we knew this was our chance and we ran full speed and up one more nut buster hill. We dropped packs and ran up the last hill. The goat was now 275 yards dead level infront of us feeding in the dead end basin. My friend ranged him, I rested my 300wsm on a rock and waited for him to turn. 1 shot with a 180NP and he was down.

we headed back to camp with heavy loads. Woke up the next morning to sunny weather and had a long packout. Had some cold beers stashed in the creek half way and they tasted amazing.

I hope my friend gets the tag next season, I owe him one!
