Never put a shell in my gun( again) but had a marvelous time with my boys and extended family, introduced a grandson to shooting 22s and deer hunting and all the cameraderie that goes with a hunting camp.Weather co operated

Harvested a couple of bucks and shot some grouse.100% success!

I took a nice heavy 4 point mule deer buck. No time to go after a whitetail due to construction projects at home that needed to be completed before winter really hit.

Nope - Nada - 8-14/15 - Only ever saw mature Does nocturnal on cam. Future bodes well though, observed many yearling does and short spikes in daylight but nothing that would constitute more than 30-40lbs of eating, so they walked. Must admit it has been an off year though, lost my best friend/brother/hunting partner in March and was still out of sorts come hunting season, didn't put hardly any of the usual scout work/time in so was not expecting much to be honest.
Many a dandy deer in town though lol.

I shot one. Reg 2 blacktail.

I would say I saw less deer than usual. Numerous trips to the high country showed less than usual. Few cameras I had out showed a decent number of deer still, just not when I was out there.

Got lucky this year with a deer and elk on solo hunts ( no meat split with a partner). Been a great bird season too. Aside from the odd chicken , been eating free range organic high quality game meat daily. (Just breaded some grouse strips for lunch)

Unfortunately, means dont need any more meat and probably wont go after a spring bear next year.

No deer this year. Only the third time in 40 years of hunting that has been the case. Elk and a moose though. Didn't see a muley that would break 140" this year but only hunted them 3 days. Saw one whitetail over 160" for the last two days of the season but didn't have permission on that property and never caught him crossing onto the neighbors where I did have permission.

Saw double digits of whitetail bucks over 130" in the last 5 days of the season though. And this year was a personal best for numbers of bull moose, 9 two point bulls, 8 tripalms, and 6 in the early season.
Saw 5 fully mature muleys that were 2x2's or 3x3's, heavy mass, big frames. Usually don't see more than one in a season up here. All in all, more deer than last year I think.

Did not make it out for blacktails (a first for me).
Took one whitetail dry doe in Region 4 and another in Region 8.
Lots of complaints from the many landowners we know in both areas, calling this fall "like a war zone with goofs from the LML around every corner". Heard many citations of piss poor behavior and poaching incidents.
Lowest number of deer we have ever seen in both areas.

2 excellent hunts this year - one for muleys and the other for whitetail. Never pulled the trigger. Saw deer but just not the right one in the right place at the right time. Hunted hard and I enjoyed it immensely. Camp life was excellent in getting away from the enslavement shoved down our throats by conformist chickens.

For the first time in over 25+ years did not do at least one trip to the interior. As a result I put some effort into hunting Island blacktails for the first time in 15 years but was not successful. I went out 9 days and saw very few deer, 16 in total. I blew an opportunity on the only decent buck I saw. I re-visited areas where we had been successful on large bucks years ago but there was not nearly the abundance of sign as before and definitely not the amount of deer. I did however discover the 80% timbered slopes I used to easily navigate 35-40 years ago have somehow become steeper and more of a challenge. Congratulations to all of the successful hunters.

Saw some nice bears while out scouting in early summer. Lots of does/fawns early part of season. Had my 11 yr old grandson out with his Youth License. He took a few grouse. Due to covid had to cut hunting season away back as my only adult partner was mingling with way to many. On to next year!

Saw deer all over but decided to go for a big 4 point muley....I failed. Got a nice 4x4 wt full hybrid completely by fluke. Hunted from sept 20th until dec 10 almost every day region 3 and 5 and 7. Deer populations aren't what they were and white tails are moving in hard everywhere

Took a nice 4 point alpine mule in September, followed by my moose at the end of September.. only filled those two this fall, but passed on several legal white tails and saw several more nice mule deer later in the season.

I wacked a 6 point elk and a 5 point whitetail that I called in.After that I concentrated on 4 point mulies.Tracked a big track for 2 1/2 hours to his bedding site.3 beds there and so many tracks I gave up on him.I was a long ways from the truck by then.Later in the day I found a 4 pointer.Probably over 200 lbs.I passed him up as his rack was heavy beamed but weak and scraggly points. It would have been a long haul out as I didn't make it back to the truck until well after dark.Great fun thou.

Nada...
Could have taken a small WT early season and a small 4pt MD, but let it walk.
I am ok with that, but not okay with the fact that covid screwed up plans for a few extra hunts that got cancelled due to partners working tons of overtime.

Did see on FB and the odd buck on here that were nice bucks, so glad to see they are around. if they are given the time to "age up".
Okay with the meat guys too, fyi.
Not happy about the "poached" incident this season however.

Got a Reg 2 3x3 muley Sept 4th with a compound bow and wife tagged a nice 2x2 blacktail with her 30-06 Oct 24. Thought about looking for one more blacktail, but between those two deer and the spring bear the freezers were pretty full. My wife gave me the go ahead to go chase another blacktail these last couple weekends "we'll make it fit" but after the long hard work weeks I just couldn't get enough of myself together to head out and poke around (used all my vacation days too) That's fine. It was an an excellent year and the last time I was out, I put up two more cams (total 6 out now) in some key areas. I am really looking forward to grabbing that footage and switching out the batteries in March.

4 days over 2 weekends

4 hour drive from that lovely sunny patch of land south of the fraser river.............

turned out i wanted to hit a tree instead (long story) - yikes

killed the second one dead tho

another solid kammy forkhorn

Did very little deer hunting this year because I cut both tags on the second day of each opening ,,,,so two deer on two shots. Both deer were forks. I'm way more about the quality of the meat than the size of what could go on the wall. In fact, if I can't cut my meat with a butter knife then I'll usually pass.

First time I haven't gone after a WT doe in many years but I've switched things up a bit by spending a ton of time going waterfowl hunting with my griff,,,,usually 2-3 times per week since the season started. Also got a ton of grouse while scouting the areas that I mule deer hunt in after the first 8 day Canada goose opening finished in September.

Another deerless year for me.
Only got out once with Son, too many nagging body problems for me.
He got a really nice Mulie early on in the season, his freezers are full from last season's bear and a crap load of fish - salmon, trout, perch, you name it. We offered to buy him a freezer for Xmas but he has no room for another.
Son took Son In Law out a total or 3 or so days, no luck, still trying to get him his first deer. Apparently had a chance or two but didn't shoot for various reasons.

took a whitetail doe reg 8 honey hole... 5 minutes into morning shooting light...have taken 7 deer within 500 feet of this spot...a pinch point between where they eat and where they bed...

So cool! Got my first whitetail (doe, region 3) this year, then focused on getting a whitetail buck (region 5). Got a couple of nice bucks on the game camera, but they didn't want to show themselves during daylight hours. Got the hard part nailed down though, found where they are hanging out, now I need to implement patience and learn how to do a better job calling. All the best in the New Year!

congrats on your first...awesome

it was a perfect set up this year...when the wind is right the deer will always come right past my spot at or just before daybreak...If they are early, I know where they go to bed down...and the doe bedding area is approachable...the bucks go higher up and the only way to get to them is back and forth on switch backs while they watch you go up..heheh I have tried to put a play on bucks there but no luck where they bed

I got up extra early....slowly walked 1km from camp to sit and wait for first light...I walked a bit too fast and was quite warm when I got to my spot even though there was a light rain...I was sitting there in the dark sipping my coffee in a tshirt and light rain thinking life does not get any better than this (I actually said to myself, "I am gonna request to have some ashes spread here when I die) …

all of a sudden, the clouds whisked away and it was shooting light in barely a blink of the eye...I think it caught the deer off guard a bit and they moved up from the farm fields too late to take advantage of the darkness...

I am not the most patient at sitting and waiting so I sit until I can see farther than I would be heard (wind and terrain and other conditions determine how quiet/noisey things are so it is a bit of a gut feeling on when to move)…

I had not moved more than 10 feet from my sitting spot when I spotted a decent sized doe...bang...70 lbs of meat....

In between "bang" and "70 lbs of meat" there is a bit more to the story but i'll leave it at that for now

I saw about a thousand deer this year, not exaggerating a bunch of moose a bunch of cow elk too. I got some photos with 5-10 bucks in one picture some good videos too. One of the best years I have ever had.

I saw a huge mule buck three days before opening day, it is the biggest deer I have seen standing live. Watched it for over ten minutes with the video camera within 50 yards.

I also saw my biggest whitetail buck this year. I saw it two days after I used my tag on a doe.

I shot a nice four point muley on my last day in the field over 200lbs dressed out.

I got my first deer ever this year.
It's only my third year hunting and i finally took deer hunting seriously this year. I started hunting a couple years ago for grouse and rabbits, but not much else. This year I told myself that this is the the year I get my first deer. It paid off apparently haha. I could tell the whole story, but it would never come close to explaining how I felt about it:
Long, long LONG story short my first deer was a blacktail buck, taken with my bow. My hunting partner and myself went to the gulf islands for a week long hunt. We were spot and stalk bowhunting, but there were lots of deer where we were and there had been many heartbreaking close calls over that week for both of us. The last morning was the rainiest and windiest of them all. After a long week, on the last day I honestly didn't want to get up. I didnt want to go out and hunt. I felt defeated. My partner talked me out of it. He said "this is where the fairytale endings happen."
It did.
After crawling around in the rain for 5 days I got gorgeous blacktail buck. First bow kill ever, first deer ever. It was a great day.
Ive grown up around farmers, ranchers, and I've cooked professionally for practically half my life. I've learned butchery and curing meat - I'm no stranger to the reality of processing food. Hunting was something I needed to do- and I have confirmed i am a lifelong hunter.
