What do you intend to use them for? Look up Vortex binos in a local birdwatching store. Clear, crisp, lottsa light (50mm obj lens) and very reasonable in price. 8.5x50's were only $3cwt.

plan on using them for all my hunting needs. deer, hopefully a moose, elk. i am a new hunter, and am trying to get some quality reasonably priced gear together. the bino's i have are some real cheap tiny pocket sized ones.

will check out the ones you suggested.

thanks

I'd recommend saving a few more pennies, and getting a set of E2's. I've had the $1,199 Elite's in one hand and the $499 E2's in the other, and if I swapped em back in forth four or five times, I could in no way tell which was which by looking through them.

Since I busted/crashed, my last decent pair of bino's about a week ago. They dont like gettin dropped too much, I have been checkin out whats available, and have come to the decision that for the money, a pair of Nikon Monarchs 8X42s are in the "I need now" column. Should run less than 4 bill delivered, and are comparable to many of the 1200 to 1500 $ ones out there.

Ive owned Monarch 10x42s for three years now, and they are pretty good binocs, and decent price too around $400, but they are nowhere near the quality of a $1500 pair of binoculars...no way

anyways, Excursions are a real good bang for the buck optic, $240 or so for the 8 or 10 x40. Big step up in performance over the similar price "trophy" binocs. You have to spend $400+ to get better binocs than the excursions

hmmm.....E2's. matching up the specs with the excursion they are very comparable, the only difference i the field of view at 1000 yards, and the E2's have one more coating then the Excursions. is there more that i am missing? .....i looked at the monarchs, they are nice.....the 10x42 fit nice in the hand.

the fact is, i have a line on the excursions...can pick them up for $200 and the come with a 3x9x40 bushnell trophy scope free, which i can off load...its a tempting deal that would save me lots. (localy the are $315 taxes in) ........dont know if its blinding me from the quality of the bino's?

Tod, I wasnt talking about the 10X42 Monarch's, for some reason they dont compare, in user trials done by many of the bino using bird watching sites. The 8X42 Monarchs shine on all but the very best of the high priced competition, when it comes to light transmission, clarity, and comfort. Check them out. Could be that some of the best know bird watchin sites are paid off by Nikon, but I doubt it.

I did a lot of checking before I bought my Vortex Vultures for 3 bills....

They are available in 8.5x50, and 10x50......they let in a ton of light in the early mornings and in the later afternoons!

The reason I bought the 8.5x50's is for competition archery. I've tried a lot of binos in the $500 range and these beat anything that was available - you won't be disappointed at all.

Doug at cameralandny hooked me up with a pair of Monarch 8x36, delivered and at less than 2 bills, I gotta say it's really worth every penny. I looked through the E2 and the Pentax (both more than double in price) and the Nikon is at least on par, if not better than both. It's lightweight and good for eyeglasses users like me.

Another bino not yet mentioned is the Olympus Maggellan's. I personally can't tell the difference between them and my Monarch's and the Olympus binos are $100 less at $299.
