A buddy of mine up in Ft Nelson gets his Moose, takes it to the meat cutter and gets it cut and wrapped.
His Son comes for a visit from Peace River Alta, He gives his boy a cooler of meat to take back with him
The CO's have a road block, and check things out, the CO's proceed to give his boy a citation for transporting wild game without a permit.
I always thought that after you got wild game home it was yours to give it to whoever you wanted ?
Were the CO's right in giving out a ticket ?
The CO's were going to handout 3 tickets and take the meat away.
My buddy knows the CO's up there and talked to them while his boy was in the check point.
His boy was able to keep the meat, and the CO's are saying he still has to pay the one fine.

I do know if someone else is transporting your game to the cooler/meat cutter you need to fill out that form in the regs.
But after the game has been processed ?
What say you all

Good question. I would be interested in looking at the specific wording in the Wildlife Act the Regulations prescribed by the Act. I don't have time to chase down both now, but we do need both and then can figure out the potential cases for and against it. Perhaps yet another grey area? Too soon to say though. Might have time later this evening.

Sounds like this is the part that applies when transporting game meat:

"if
the animal was taken by another person, a
Record of Receipt of the wildlife (see
page 24) showing:
-the date and place of receipt,
-the name and address of the person
who killed the animal, or from whom it was
acquired,
-the name and address of the person to
whom the wildlife parts are to be delivered,
-the Fish and Wildlife ID or permit
number of the person who killed the animal,
-the species licence number under which
the animal was taken, and
-the species and sex of the animal taken.

Anyone having wildlife butchered and
packaged should obtain from the butcher a
receipt which indicates:
-the Fish and Wildlife ID, the species
licence number, and the species, and sex of
the animal taken.

Appears he needed a note from his Dad and a copy of receipt from butcher

My understanding was the receipt of wildlife form would be used for another party to get the animal home or to the butcher. I believe after that, a receipt from the butcher would be all that is needed... but I still need to chase all this down. Maybe later or tomorrow.

Did he pick up the meat from the butcher or at his Dad's place? There are rules for transport to the butchers and then to your residence but I'm not sure about any requirement after that.

At his Dads place.

The son is kinda lucky.

If he made it out of BC without the required paperwork, he could have been checked in Alberta,
and been charged with illegal importation of wildlife.
Federal rules could also be applied.

Crossing borders with wildlife without the proper paperwork can get a guy is some serious trouble,
even for little things.
