As the subject says:

I have warm gloves, I have ski gloves, I have mechanix gloves (which are actually great for out hunting), etc.

What are people using for a glove that is decently waterproof? (and not those thick rubberized yellow things) I'm tired of being out hiking for a day and my gloves getting so wet they end up weighing 500lbs.

Thanks

David

I've been liking the Kuiu Axis gloves for what you're describing. Only a partial season on them but so far been happy, above +5 degrees. Haven't had them out below that.

I thought about putting snow seal on a pair of insulated leather gloves and see how that works. Some days I go through 5 pairs of gloves working in wet conditions. 3 pair just today what with the snow melt and doing roof sheeting. In 40 years I have yet to find gloves that keep my hands dry!!

Anything goretex will keep you dry but warmth... that is the tough one.

Snow seal on leather gloves works great make sure you use a heat gun to get it soaked in

To keep my hands dry I use a latex glove under my gloves, whether I'm working or hunting in the rain/snow. The gloves get wet but my hands don't get split from the moisture, works good.

I suppose that would be fine, I like the thin ones. My fingers get split bad from moisture, so bad I have to use crazy glue to keep them together, painful too.

I have 2 pair neoprene gloves in my boat. They’re thin, fit like a work glove (not tight) and keep your hands warm/dry. If anything, they’re too warm.

I'm currently looking at the hunting gloves from Sealskinz -- anyone used these before? I'm trying to get my hands on a discount code. They're $120 with shipping. The reviews seem quite positive.

4 glove day today. Found my snow seal and then I will hang the gloves over the wood stove. Might do new gloves due to stiffness of the old wet and dried ones.

I sent in an email to Sealskinz and they gave me a free shipping and 15% off code.

The $120 went down to $90. Very fast customer service. I will let you know how they are once I've tried them out.

Neoprene paddling gloves are good. Kuiu guide are good but pricy. For really snotty conditions try Showa waterproof breathable gloves. https://www.amazon.ca/Atlas-Waterproof-Breathable-Technology-Insulation/dp/B015WU50K2/ref=pd_sim_nf_328_2/137-5019678-1776209?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B015WU50K2&pd_rd_r=f5b42377-a5ae-42e9-9fde-cc6d9269820d&pd_rd_w=CaXGp&pd_rd_wg=mUlp8&pf_rd_p=368603aa-7995-442d-a59b-38e512b496cb&pf_rd_r=BVMWMF1QZ8NP2EKZE0BW&psc=1&refRID=BVMWMF1QZ8NP2EKZE0BW

My kid put me onto these as they are popular for ice climbers.. they came from the Japanese fishing industry and are very comfortable and so far seem pretty durable. I use these for really wet days when my hands are going to get soaked.

Those Showa look too bulky for trigger work but I really like the look of the sealskin ones.

Care to share that discount code Jamesonm?

Nevermind, just found and ordered them off Amazon for $69.

You saved 20 bucks and you'll prolly get em quicker too. Did you get the shooting ones or hunting?

I got the hunting ones. I thought the fold back finger may get water in tramping around in the moss.

There appears to be lots and lots of different Sealskinz models of gloves/mittens. I prefer to take my glove off my shooting hand so I ended up getting the waterproof mittens for extreme cold. I also looked at the split finger model which would have been my second choice but they were pricier.

I sure would have liked to have either model on my moose hunt last week because it was cold, tons of wet snow, and windy,,,, and I want my hands as warm and dry as possible. Your hands will never be as warm with gloves compared to mittens!

Black neoprene mechanics gloves under any glove/mitten stops the damp & is great for trigger pull when you slip off the glove. Adds warmth too!

I had some glacier glove decoy gloves that were great, but only lasted one season.
Goretex isn’t waterproof, it's just water resistant, but if you don't want waterproof (rubber) gloves, I'm using simms fly-fishing gloves, they have been pretty good. They are reflective though. Way cheaper than the hunting brands.

Snow seal didn't perform well. Moving steel with wet slushy snow got them wet. Mainly in the places that flexed.
Maybe melt snow seal and bees wax together and dip the glove it the solution.
I don't spend big money on gloves due to the ability to wear through 4 pairs in a month. Up to 21 pair in a year. So I'll just keep trying to water proof some $12 to $20 winter gloves.
Working on a veggie oil/bees wax/snow seal recipe. Smells interesting melting. Makes the gloves very sticky. Might do my insulated coverall knees too.

A frend of mine does Windows and gutters. He uses Kayak gloves, neoprene I guess, thin light and warm.

So it's pretty clear there is no magical waterproof gloves
Just pick the best for the task at hand and carry spares to be able to change out.
Best I've found are the rubber palm knit gloves buy the dozen

Just make sure to have something warm and dry at the end of the day when the sun goes down
A loose overmitt with a chemical handwarmer is tough to beat

I got my pair too but I haven't tried them because it has been real glove weather, not rain glove weather. They are nicely made.

I agree they fit snug. I'd order a size bigger than usual.
